IMS possibility?

http://www.dragraceinc.com/APE-G6035.html

friend found that and was saying that it's the same thing as the nissanworks IMS and that I over paid for the one that I purchased.

What are your comments and ideas on this? He also said that they use the same picture for all the Nissans that they sell it for, so that's why it looks like it's for a 4-banger

After looking around, It seems that if their description holds true, then It's the same basic material, but Aaron may have more specific information on the Phenolic Resin used in creating his version. Nonetheless, I think I'd rather buy from Aaron as it's already been proven that he packages then extremely well with very high precision design and best yet, he's here in the trenches where everyone can talk to him one on one.

IMO you can't just assume 2 parts with the same application will perform the same. those look like they're designed off the gaskets, which Aaron already stated the fitment would be not as good that way.

I wish I knew some more about this product you are referring to. The link no longer takes you to a product.

Can someone else find any information about this spacer kit? I really want to set matters straight.

Is this product actually made by Apexi? If so, then I'm sure it will be listed on their website. There is a line called Gizzmo, but I have never seen where they make anything for the FWD VQ35DE.

Aaron's product is truly quality. From the pics I saw it looked like someone tin snipped the crap out of sheet metal.

I also agree with what kamilkluczewski said...however blunt it may be

Thank you for that link. It only lists it as "Nissan VQ35". It does not specify whether it's for the Maxima, Altima, Murano, Quest, 350z, G35, or FX35. There is a huge difference in the intake manifold design between the FWD and RWD. And the AWD platform depends on the model as to which intake manifold it uses.

If Apexi does make this kit, I am willing to bet it ONLY includes the two thin lower intake manifold gaskets, which will work on ANY VQ35DE motor. But there is no way they are port matched like mine. I have not found a single company that spends the R&D hours necessary to port match their spacers. Every company I've come across simply makes a copy of the OEM gasket. As most of you already know, the OEM gasket has oversized ports. When you make a spacer copied from this gasket, it will hurt airflow even more so.

I really doubt an actual kit has been made that will fit the entire FWD VQ35DE intake manifold like the Nissan Works kit. If someone has more information about the Apexi Gizzmo kit for the VQ35DE, feel free to post.

Once again, I REALLY appreciate everyone's support and thank you for your business!

Can you find out exactly which parts the kit consists of and if longer bolts are included?

I am pretty sure these spacers are only the two thin lower intake manifold spacers. Those will fit on either the RWD or FWD VQ35DE. But, if they make any spacers other than those, it will be a specific kit for the FWD or RWD. And even then, it's model specific on certain years.

But, for two lower intake manifold spacers, I can do $79 if I have to. But, currently, I am only selling the kit as a whole. The lower intake manifold spacers by themselves certainly do not offer a dyno proven 10hp gain like the Nissan Works kit.

I will have to call Apexi on Monday since they don't have an email address on their website. I'll be sure to let you guys know what I find out.

**** Apexi, NissanWorks all the way!

Although I have 3 comments to make about your kit Aaron:

-What is the gold extension used for that comes with the bolts? My tech and I could not figure out what it was for (we thought that it was most likely a hose extension) but all the hoses matched up nicely, so what's it for?

-The 2 rear bolts that hold the IM onto a bracket do not go back in because of the raised height of the IM. My tech said that it's no big deal, but I was just wondering if you have an answer for that.

-The 4 bolts provided for the ELBOW were tough to thread in, so my tech used the stock bolts that were on it already and they seemed to have more than enough thread left on it. The bolts you provided seemed to have identical thread to the OEM ones, but didn't thread in...any idea?

Other than that, I am pleased with the 20 some miles I put on it already and no codes or rough idling or any abnormal behaviors.

For your first issue, read step 8 of my instructions. It's all explained on that step. This fitting is to bypass the coolant in order to prevent the elbow from getting hotter.

For your second issue, read Step 10 of my instructions. It states to completely remove the bracket from the motor and that it will no longer bolt up once the spacers are installed.

For your last issue, the bolts provided are exactly the same thread and pitch, but are slightly longer. The reason I provided these longer bolts was that the stock bolts were not long enough to safely torque to spec with the 1/4" spacer installed. As for your difficulty in threading them in the elbow, check the condition of the threads on the bolts I provided. It's possible they got damaged. If they are, I will rush another set to you immediately. But the bolts I provided have the exact same specs, except they are longer. They should easily thread on by hand if you have the elbow spacer properly aligned.

Please email me if you have any more questions. Lets try to keep this thread on topic. Thanks.

No it's ok. I'm here to try to answer all of your questions.

Also, I just got off the phone with Apex to get some more information about these spacers.

Just like I thought, they are gasket copies and go between the heads and the lower intake manifold. They will fit on both the FWD and RWD VQ35DE. They are roughly the same thickness as the stock gasket.

For $78.00, you only get two thin LIM spacers. No longer bolts are needed since they are identical to the OEM gasket, just a different material. You do NOT get the rest of the kit that's so important, such as the Upper Intake Manifold, Elbow, and Throttle Body Spacer. On top of all that, they are not port matched like the Nissan Works Kit.

So the Apex Gizzmo kit is not the same as the Nissan Works Kit.

If anybody is still thinking of buying the Gizzmo kit, please contact me first. I can easily beat that price for two LIM spacers! With the Nissan Works kit, everything is port matched and nothing is copied from a gasket. Also, I use a much more expensive and durable grade of phenolic that is not cotton or paper based! My spacers can be reused and will easily outlast the life of your car!
