Brake Pad Question

I am going to change my pads this weekend weather permitting. Is there anything I should know beforehand. Like the 1st time i changed my pads on my old Chevy Beretta the caliper was bolted on with a special bolt that required a hex socket. Will good old normal tools work for this or will I need to get myself some special order tool?

Nope, I believe it's a 14mm socket or wrench that will do. Just make sure to have a c-clamp to push the piston back in and back sure to only do one side at a time, otherwise when you push one piston, the other one may pop out.

Speaking of brake pads.... I went to get a damn alignment and the chick at the counter calls me back 2 hours later saying I needed brake pads. She says Nissan is the only kind of car that uses special ceramic brake pads and they are 110 per pad... I was like whoa.... Now I was gonna fall victim to that cuz I dont know much about cars but is this true?

$110 per pad? thats cheap. The dealer told me that they are anywhere from 160-180 per pad because its a special ceramic material imported from china. For $110 per pad I bet they are going to cut corners sowewhere.

It's not true. Most cars (including Maximas) use either an organic or semi-metallic compound in their brake pads. Ceramic pads are considered an upgrade but aren't a requirement in most vehicles (certainly not in the Maxima).

If you guys are paying $110 and up for dealer supplied brake pads you are both getting ripped off big time. I just purchased for my 2005 front and rear pads from the dealer and the front's were $68 and rears $57 plus the taxes. Now if 04's uses different pads then i guess it is what it is but still too much in my opinion.

Your response once again shows that newbies don't read.

The Maxima comes with ceramic pads from the factory. I found this out when I got new pads for the first time.

hey xoomer i think you r the one that don't read if i'm not mistaken it seems that the guy stated that the girl at the counter called and told him it was 110per pad and you said you were quoted 160-180 per pad and after replied "i kid, I kid" all i'm say is i paid way less than that for mine and if you were joking by your numbers then give the guy a positive and true answer to what the amount was. Read back the post and see who needs to read.

dude I am sorry that you can't read a joke. I wasn't quoted I was kidding, (joking, pulling a leg, fooling around, effing around, take your pick) when the guy said he was quoted 110 per side, its was unreal. READ AGAIN.

I wouldn't be able to tell the guy how much the OEM pads are because everyone here buys aftermarket pads which are "free" (<--- its in quotes, hint hint) comparing to the unbelievable price of $110 per side he was quoted.

HAHAH man you make me laugh
