Upgrading to short ram intake

Hey Guys,

I'm looking into buying an intake for my car and have researched the different ones available. I decided to go short ram since it floods a lot in Houston and don't want to risk getting watter in the engine with a cold air. I came across an inexpensive short ram on ebay ($25). Not sure if I should do it. It looks descent and for $25 I can risk trying it out, but before making that decision I would like to hear some feedback from you guys. If I get it I plan to spray some ceramic coating on the pipe and build a heat shield for the filter. Please see the link below.

you should be suckered punched in tha face if u buy a $2.00 intake from ebay for a $30,000. CAR.

If this is the case, go join the guys in the 4th and 5th gens forums. They like to put Mickey Mouse siht on their cars.

LOL, im just messin man. I'm pretty sure the ebay filters are junk though. Plus that looks like a 5.5 gen intake.

Your right, but the filter I was planing to replace with a K&N. My only concern is the connectio to my air sensor. if this is not the right choice i was looking ito the cold airInjen that converts to short ram or Berk.

If your going with a warm air intake mind as well get the weapon R, some guys on here swear by it. Pretty ingenious design if you look at their website.

Good Luck,

I built a heat shield for my SRI, but I agree with fastmax, there is no reason to be afraid of a CAI and flooding.

I wouldn't buy anything from a company called "N-Take"

I don't know. The pictures and the write up don't give me any confidence. Good luck with that one.

Agreed. If I was going short ram I'd go Weapon R or you could try the Budget intake But I would probably avoid the super cheap Ebay stuff.

Question, does the short ram impact launch/take off the way the CAI does?

Well thank you guys. You have convinced me not to buy it. I will look into the weapon R or most likely go for the Fujita. After hearing that sound clip I loved the sound.

Also, about the ECU. Which method is better? Ignition key and gas pedal, or unpluging the battery cable?

Thanks again.

Gas pedal method resets ECU codes. Unplugging the negative cable for a long time (35+hrs) deletes learned fuel settings etc.

Is the end result the same? Sorry, I'm such a noob.

I suppose you can say that. It will relearn the fuel settings/driving habits over time. It's said to run rough when resetting learned fuel settings, but in my experience, I've never noticed that.

we don't flood THAT much here in Houston. I know plenty of people with CAI and never run into problems here in town.

but if you're going the short ram route, go with Berk Technology.
