Bad struts/shocks?

Hey everyone. I have recently started getting a strange hollow knocking sound coming from the passenger side of my car over the last few days. I only hear it when I go over bumps. I think it is coming from the front wheel area. About 2 months ago, I hit a large pothole hard enough to bend my wheel (thus "forcing" me to upgrade all 4 stock wheels to nice aftermarket wheels), but have not had this noise until now.

So, does this sound like maybe a bad strut/shock? I can't see any obvious loose pieces etc. It looks like the car still sits evenly, but I guess if the springs are still ok it would not affect the car's stance, right?

If it is a bad strut/shock, how bad is it to drive around on one? I was planning on upgrading to Progress springs with KYB struts/shocks, but not until after the new year... Should I do this sooner now?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated....

Bad strut for sure, happened to me many times as well as most maxima drivers. It is a known issue with our struts. Mine has been making noise for a while now but nissan wont repair it under my warranty until it starts leaking.

ya, upgrade sooner. If your gonna do one u might as well do the other and theres some very good deals on the progress gr2 package in the group buy forums. I went through a few OEM struts while under warranty, they sucked.

I thought the issue was with the 04's. Am I incorrect? I thought that Nissan corrected it with the 05's, or maybe even the late model 04's?

I have 49,079 on the ODO and I am still on stock shocks/struts. AND, I'm on Progress and can't say enough great things about them!

Thanks everyone, that noise sure is annoying. I will just have to drive my wife around a lot so she will get annoyed and realize that I need to "fix" the suspension problem
