4dsc?

I was thinking today (cuz i was bored) and is the 6gen maxima a true 4 door sports car? technically speaking im pretty sure it is, a motor thats tuned for performance, a 6speed transmission, independent suspension, wide tires, wide stance/track, thick small diameter steering wheel, etc. I know that there are some points that make it seem like its not a sports car (long throw shifter for instance) I know the 4th and 5th gen are not considered sports cars due to the rear beam axle and seems the rear track has gotten a needed widening in the 6gen.
Anyway I have been looking for 4dsc stickers (i know others have too ive seen posts on this before) as far as I know they don't make them anymore, but Im trying to find a way to get a pic of one and get it printed on clear plastic with a sticky side. Ill be doing my research. anyones .02 on this im interested to hear.

Aside from its obesity, the IRS would be the qualification measure over the 4/5gen.

but like think of the bmw 7 series..i know the maxima is nothing compared to that..but that car is huge..and it can very well hold its own to smaller sporty cars in speed and agility.

My INS went down about the same amount of dollars when I turned 25.

Looks like the new standard is 3.7/8. I wonder when we will be near the 4L area.. Hmmm, I would prefer 2 more cyls if/when we get to that number.

Good thing you put this topic in the 6th Gen section. 4th and 5th Gen folks get real sensitive about topics like this.

I was drivin' today and was following a CLK 55 AMG(367HP). He was driving at a pretty good clip(about 80mph). I pass him up and he tries to catch me with no luck. I made a couple of swift moves and he gave up(or was scared to wreck his car).

Now what do you think? 4dsc?

I say 4dsc. I see it as a dual personality car, luxury sedan and sport sedan. Either side can be explored and developed as many people on here have done. I have chosen to explore the sport side of it, and with a few mods, this car performs remarkably well. The proof is my last 3 years of time trial races and the trophies sitting in my office. This can be made to be a really amazing car. I can drive it to the track in quiet luxury, air conditioning blowing, 320w stereo bumpin; I pump up the tires to 45-50 lbs, click the suspension, strap on the 4 point harness, and holy $hit, this car tears up a long track. Nuf said.

Everyone sees the 6th gen slightly differently. I sort of 'split hairs' by considering the 6th gen SE as a 4DSC, especially when properly modded, but feel the 6th gen SL is slanted a tad more toward being a luxury car.

The general feeling on the ORG during the last four years (since the 6th gen arrived at dealers in March 2003) seems to be that Nissan is taking the Maxima away from 4DSC and toward the luxury category. But certain remarks Goshn made last spring offer hope that the 7th gen will definitely be a 4DSC, albeit larger and more expensive. The Altima 3.5 6 speed will now sort of fill the category of Nissan's very affordable entry level 4DSC.

Yup! LOL There are a bunch that won't hesitate to start trouble at the sight of such a topic.

One fact remains true though: 6th Gen 6spd stock is the fastest Max ever.

Actually, the 5AT stock for stock was faster in th1/4. I’ve never seen a stock A346MT timeslip that betters the stock A34 5AT nor 6MT A33B in the ¼ mile forum.

Couldn't agree more! Heated steering?! That's to melt my hands to the wheel when my "Jita" kicks in and I need to remind another that they belong in the right lane!!!!

as for the 5at being quicker why is this? i saw fastmax's 1/4 time was 14.2 when i saw that im like...ok i should be able to push a 14 flat or a 14.1 with my 6MT but i KNOW that wont happen..my 2k2 4AT ran a 14.71 in the quarter with just an intake. the only place i feel power advantage in the 6mt is at high speed. is it me or does the 5at have a real low 1st gear and extremely quick shifting?

Of the three 6th gen 6 spds I've ran against, I've gotten them all...almost....

One of them, I had gotten even stock, every time I went up against him (taken by about 1/2 - 1 full car by third. He was stock also.

Another, usually winning by the same distance.

The third is a bit different, he has the phenolic spacers, y pipe, intake.....I forget the rest. I have not had a clear win with him at all. In fact, I would think it's even. I'll let him chime in here.....

I truely believe the automatic vs. standard is an arguement left for the past. Am I wrong?

I am not biased, in that I actually prefer to drive standard trannies. But I own an auto.

Mostly, yes. Although there is the 'let's go' attempt to. The results aren't different from the roll, than from the launch.

it just confuses the living sh*@ outta me how an automatic..with less gears..can be quicker. I mean wouldnt one think that 6 gears allows you to be in powerband more often than 5...plus having a tq. converter..i just dont get it. only thing other car o can think of is I think one of the new twin turbo BMW 3 series the automatic is slightly quicker than the manual according to mag tests. only other place ive ever heard that. of course bmw makes amazingly quick transmissions..

Maybe I am looking at this from an odd stance...Buuuut;

Is it because it takes 6 gears on a manual tranny to do what a 5 spd auto can do in 5 gears?

I'm not tranny smart, so take this with a grain of salt if it's nuts.

well no i mean..say when the auto goes to shift from 2nd to 3rd at redline..the next gear will make the rpms end up at lets say 4000 rpms (i dont know just a figure)..while 2nd to 3rd on the 6speed may have the rpms end up on 4500 so the engine will be able to make more power more % of the time. Thats what I was saying. its a close ratio gearbox (6MT) so every time you shift up (from redline) you are close to the optimum RPM for the maximum amount of power. so you have constant power up till top speed.

It's also because not many of you 6th genner hit the track that often so we don't have many comparisons to go by.

I dont believe the AT Maximasare faster than the 6sp manuals for 3 reasons: 1. A manual tranny is a direct drive, rather than using a torque convertor, therefore, there is less driveline losses due to greater efficiency, 2. By having 6 gears closer together to do the accelerating, it leads to quicker overall accelration;sometimes when u have longer gears as u do in automatics, certain speeds may be slightly quicker do to shift points, and 3. I think the final drive for the manual is shorter than the automatic (someone check this out)

Fantastic logic.

They probably aren’t, BUT hardly any of you hit the track that often so there are less timeslips to compare them to. But umm, I thought we had been through this before as per my last post

Hurry up and hit the track and prove the facts wrong. Or look in the ¼ mile database and find me a 6MT stock that is faster than the 5AT that is in there.

Cliffs: 6MT probably is faster but it hasn't been definitively established due to the lack of timelips in the database.
