check your air filter?

may be a vacuum leak somewhere as well...very doubtful, but this is what caused my friends boosted RSX to jump from 2k to 1k to 2k to 1k until it died.

at idle the Lexus/Toyota 3.5 V6 is smooth and silent but once you get on it, it sounds cheap and tin like, not very impressed with it, they make a great V8 and the 2JZ is one of a kind but the engine is not their strong point, Im not 100% positive but the Toyota and Ford 3.5 are clones of the Nissan VQ, from what I've read.

The previous 3.0 and 3.3 drove and sounded better, not faster but I'd take an ES330 over an ES350 and my father has an ES350

When my 04 was new in the summer of 03, people would ask if the engine was running (when it was) -- because it was so smooth and quite. Now that I have 64 K miles on her, the engine makes a little more noise and the idle is not quite as smooth as it was when new.

But the engine is still smooth and powerful.

The Ford 3.5 L engine was supposed to be a copy of the VQ engine (from a source who knows), but Ford cheaped-out on the engine design, and the engine is not the same -- nor near as good as the VQ.

I have to get mine back to nissan. I'm just about out of my powertrain warranty and my motor doesn't idle smoothly at all and my tranny (auto) is shifting poorly to say the least. The 2-3 shift is just plain awful. Last dealership i took it to tried feeding me crap like i need to spend $100 for a throttle body cleaning and some other upsold bullsheit. Its an 04 with 39k miles. Always had oil/tranny changes regularly. Angers me slightly

Is your CEL on? I had a rough idle and it turned out to be a bad sparkplug on the back bank...

This is not the case here. The engine in my 04 (with 64 K miles) can not be heard idling if the windows are closed.

When the car was new, you could not hear the engine idling, even with the windows open. It was extremely quite.

most cars are like that, it's after they get a couple miles on them that they start to sound normal, mine has 40k and is not dead quiet at idle but I have to look at the tach sometimes to see if it's running.

Next time you go buy a new car, test drive a similiar model off the used car lot, gives you an idea of what to look forward to
