Why MT>AT

I understand the launch where a MT would be able to get more power, but for us with the tip-tronic why is the MT quicker from a roll? I have never had a MT car b4 and it would seem to me that if I held 40 in 2nd and he did the same the power would be pretty = when we both hit it. I can let the RPM's come up to 7k just like a MT can, and even shift into 3rd faster.... I just don't understand why the MT would walk away.

MT is always way better than auto , unless you have a bimmer SMG tranny ?

An auto just just sift as hard and as qwk.. thats the simple way to put it but theres more to it then that

Gear ratios d00d!

If you put the same amount of gears with the same gear ratios in an auto and manual, then I'm pretty sure that it would be even...pretty sure

Manuals are just always gonna be associated with being sportier. VW DSG is probably the best manauto on the market. Plus manuals have less drivetrain loss

If you had the same number of gears and ratios in AT vs MT the MT would win hands down.

First of all, MT is directly driven, whereas AT has a torque convertor. Thus, some power is lost here. The gear ratios are better in MT. The only weakness for a MT is the nut behind the wheel, lol.

I'm 5spd auto and I will tell you the triptronic doesn't really help. I've been to the track multiple times and the car never runs faster 1/4mi in triptronic mode. I've even bumped it over after launch, no diff. Keep in mind, this is not me trying to shift it, just slap it over and leave it.

They gotta know how to shift to take full advantage of the MT.

I don't use mine for "added performance," I use it to control when I want to take off without lagging when I actually DO take off...as in on-ramps, off-ramps, turns, passing people, and roll races.

Good point Prjct! It's very similar to downshifting.

I dont think there is all that much of diffrence but i know if you know how to drive mt you will get a little more power. I have MT 04, it took me about a year of going around to find one, it was worth every penny. It all depends to when you shift.

The gap is closing between MT & AT but I would give the advantage to the MT driver who knows how to drive, to many act like the MT is the best thing since sliced bread, but I don't think I ever looked at any car and had a different opinion cause it was 1 or the other. Still their are many high end cars with AUTO that I would have no problem owning

To get auto start they hide the transponder key in the car, so you loose the feature of starting the car with the chip in the key

At this track I shift between 19-24 times on average per lap, x 20 laps.

I walked many a G35, 350z and other quick automatic cars. Without even stressing.

Give me a GT track and any automatic car of same class vs my Maxima..... any day any time. You can keep your mods ill just keep my Manual.

However I do hate shifting 200-300 times coming home on a Friday afternoon. The only draw back to a manual tranny = traffic.

For straight line acceleration, the different between 5AT and 6MT is very little. From the ratio, the 5AT has better use of the torque curve. On a road course, or in the twisties, 6MT has the edge because of closer gear ratio.

Kam said that he can take an auto versus his 6MT on his track, he's probably right; but on a dragstrip, it's a driver's race.

You can really shift using Your left hand and using 3 gears. n 1-3-6 or 1-3-5
