Necessary

Hello fellow Maxers! Just got back from the stealership for my monthly oil change and the service advisor said that i needed a coolant flush and brake flush. I have 34,246 miles on the Max and its running well. Are these necessary? I know the coolant is after 2years but the brake flush? And is it easy to do the coolant flush yourself. They wanted $149.95 for coolant flush and $129.95 for brake flush. I was like I'll let you guys know. In my head I was like F#@K THAT! So If you guys would help a fellow Maxer out it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you've been running good coolant and changing it regularly, you just need to drain it and replace it. I've been changing my coolant on my 1992 Maxima every two years and replacing it with 50/50% Prestone and when I took it apart to do the VTC's last year and replace the thermostat, the coolant path was pristine. If you drain it and find lots of crud and rust, then flush it and take better care of it.

I just had mine done at the stealership and they explained that the high cost was due to the use and recovery of chemicals that removed any rust or crud. They use some magic machine that hooks into your cooling system and flush it out. I bought it this time cuz i have 35k after 4years on my 04'.
