Are 4AT's Out the Window?

I've read a lot of talk about 5AT and Manuals, but nearly nothing is said about the 4AT.

This kind of leaves me out in the cold.

Can anyone tell me - is it worthwhile to mod this car for speed? Or is there such a loss from the missing gear that it's worthless. The car feels fast, but seeing video's of 5AT's racing on youtube shows quicker shifts thanks to the added gear.

I really want the Cattman headers and Y-Pipe, NWP spacers, new exhaust (I have the Fujita) and probably Nitrous in the future.

Is this just all worthless because I'll never be as fast as if I went with a manual or a 5AT?

How much time am I really losing? With all the above, could I tap 13's?

How many people here have the 4AT anyway?

I appreciate your comments,

Joshua

If u cant get in the 13's w/ n20 u need to sell yoru car and buy a kia rio...

with cai/exhaust/ypipe/ header/spacers you should be low 14.2-13.8... toss in some n20 and u should be a 13.2 -12.9 ... if not better...

14.0x has been done in the 5th gen chassis w/o headers. I think all he had was a catback (next to nothing HP wise).

High 13's are relatively easy w/ headers, or at least has been done multiple times. I will never forgive Nissan for damning me and not offering a 5AT option for 2002-2003.

It wasn't so bad for the 4th gen years since the chassis is light(considering). Fully bolted, a 5.5gen could theoretically go mid/low 13's.

I think Jime would be considered the King of the 4AT's, then there's grey99. I'm merely a follower

BO's = Headers and an intake. Headers being the key. Low 13's would require some AFR tuning and weight reduction.

Since I plan on going nitrous, is there any other way to extend the rev limiter besides the Technosquare reflash (which advances the timing and could cause a nasty explosion). I believe I either want stock timing or a bit retarded for nitrous?

Is there a way to adjust timing on the fly, so that one could be optimal for N/A and change it over to nitrous.

I appreciate your knowledge NmexMAX.

There is no TS reflash for 6th gen 4AT. You can certainly give them a call and see if they will crack your ECU.

I am still working with TS on the 4AT reflash. I went down there once and Tadashi needed to gather upgrade software information. Come to think of it, I haven't heard from him a awhile, is he still there?

How can you tell if you have 4At, or 5At? I don't know what I have. It has D then the + - to the right which I have never used. (For going down hills says manual.)

Yes. They wil need some info from you, to make sure they have a compatible program. If they have it, you can have them tune your car too. If not, it could take a few weeks to never.

Just as info, the only 6th gen Maximas with a 4 speed auto are the '04 SLs built between Jan 2003 (yes, the '04 Maxima assembly line actually started up in Jan 2003, although no '04 Maximas reached dealers until March 2003) and Feb 6th, 2004. '04 SLs built between Feb 6 2004 and July 2004 have exactly the same 5 speed tranny as the SE.

The 'build date' month and year is on the metal plate inside the driver door jamb.
