Was the 2006 Maxima the end of an era?
BadBlackMaxSL - Normally, I consider car salesmen as somewhat uninformed rumormongers. But the one you talked with may not be too far off the mark. On most points, he is fairly close to the specs this board has generally 'agreed to expect' on the 7th generation Maxima, which will be presented at an auto show within the next two or three months, and appear at dealer lots as an '09 this coming spring.
He is absolutely correct that there will be a diesel version available around the 2010 model year, and that the 7th generation Maxima will not only mark very clear separation from the mass-volume Altima (over 250K units sold this past year); it will indeed be a true flagship for the Nissan line. We have Ghosn's word on that.

Want to do some 1/4 mile times? Go find your self a highway on ramp and practice going in a straight line. If you want to really drive. MOSPORT DDTrack or MOSPORT Race Course.
Im sure Dueski and Chernmax would be in on this also.
Taking wagers?

Ima take a burrito and smack u back to mexico, cancun must have gotten to your head. Ill take your 5.5 gen with a solid rear axle to a local GT track vs my 6th gen "Boat" any day for some hot laps.

It will never end.

That’s why I have 2 non IRS’d Maximas. 4th gen and 5th gen. There’s a guy that works with me that just picked up an 07. I like it.
The CVT takes some driveability out of the Altima/Maxima but it may just be the lack of shifting Im so use to feeling, still not a fan of any CVT equipped car, the GS450h is a sweet ride but there is no connection to the road, I guess that is the future
If the Maxima is suppost to compete with Avalons then why no 6speed auto, Im betting on a 7th Gen Maxima that will directly compete with the Next Generation Acura TL

I didn't see your IDIOTIC post until NOW. I don't have a 5.5 BTW I once had a 4th gen that would a$$ rape your 6th gen any day of the week. If you want to take me up for a race BRING IT ON, I have TT 300zx with 450 HP. That's with STOCK TURBOS, STOCK INTERCOOLERS, STOCK CAMS, AND STOCK BOTOM END. If you are wondering what other cars I have you can look at the profile, they are listed right there and you wouldn't make this WRONG assumption.
The objective of my ORIGINAL POST was to point out that the general maxima "concept" has changed dramatically. It's no longer sporty, it's way to plush, way to heavy at 3485 for a manual 6th gen. The 03 manual curb weight was 3239, that's a 246 lbs difference right there, not to mention that it's bigger in every dimension. The 4th gen would only weigh 3000 lbs and it was considered a boat in it's time.
As you can see Nissan is definitely turning away from the concept of a "4DSC" (4 Door Sports Car). ***The 6th gen maxima does not have "superior road handling, braking, maneuverability, low weight, and high power" to make it what would be considered a 4DSC. (***taken from wikipedia: A sports car's dominant considerations can be superior road handling, braking, maneuverability, low weight, and high power, rather than passenger space, comfort, and fuel economy.)
Nissan's last try at this was the 4th gen, then they screwed up with the 5.0 and tried to make a come back with the 5.5.
And chill out dude, next time you say anything offensive to me I will make sure you get banned. Don't make assumptions and don't make things personal. Just because you own a 6th gen and they have IRS doesnt make them the best car in the world. Don't take me wrong I LOVE MAXIMAS but when you get in my face and say that you are going to slap me back to Cancun (I bet you have never been there) I do take that personally.

This site is far from whacked, just this section, in fact the 4th gen forum stickied how to remove the speed-limiter, on the few 4g's that came with it. But regardless.... you should chill.
