Question for 2007 owners!

Now i dont own a '07 model, but i was curious to know if the nissan smart key worked the same as other car companies like the lexus smart key. I was considering getting a GS350 and a guy at work has the IS250. So I asked a couple of questions about how the smart key system works when opening the door. Now i noticed that on the lexus GS there are the buttons on every door and the nissan only on the front two doors (yes they all come on the trunk), So i asked him do you have to push the button to unlock the doors on the lexus he said no, that the car senses the keyfob and when approaching the car it unlocks and all you have to do is pull the handle and it opens. Is this setup the same for the nissan? Do you have to push the button on the door to unlock it then open the door, or does it automatically unlock when you approach the car?

Yes, you do need to push the buttons on the front two doors to unlock and lock. There is no sensor as in Lexus for unlocking.

my friend has a gs300 and it senses when your fingers touches the door handle and unlocks, i love that lol. for the 07 you have to push the button though.

Pushing the button once opens the driver's door.
Pushing the button twice opens all doors.
No automatic sensor, but still OK in my book.

the car does know when youre inside or outside of the car though, because if you exit the car with the key in your pocket it will start beeping like nuts

That never happens to my car. I always carry the key in my pocket, including when entering and exiting.

If you leave the car on (to run back in the house for something you forgot) and the keys are in your pocket, it starts to beep because you left the car on and it no longer senses the keys. It reminds you that you didn't turn the car off.

my dad has an 08 ls460, its a lexus, of course it's going to have some things that are cooler than a nissan, but also the thing that sucks in the 07's is that you still have to turn a little **** to start the car where as in the lexus' and altima it's just push button

o yeah, if you can afford a lexus gs, why are looking at a maxima... i dont really understand

also, who gives a **** about the smart key when it comes to getting a new car? i mean, i guess if i were to go and get a new car i'd base my decision on stupid **** like that too.... sike

Its between getting a used 06-07 GS, or a full loaded maxima, because i already have a maxima now and i'm looking is that okay with you sir. I care about the smart key thats why i asked, I guess i should mention that I'm also considering either the Bmw x5 and the infiniti fx35. I'm just not sure what i want right now

I looked at the same thing when I was buying the car and I figured the Altima has the push button and the Maxima you have to turn the ****. Now that I have the car it doesn't matter if I have to push a button or turn the ****, it's all about convenience.

Had a prob with the smart key, If you Lock the doors with ignition off and leave the key IN the car, they autounlock and beep too. LOL, the problem was my GF had her key in her purse in the glove box and I got out and locked the door, it unlocked, so I locked again, and we fought the car for like 5 mins before she remembered she had her key in her purse. Sometimes TOO much tech is a bad thing.

no, b/c your problem is a good problem. it is way more likely you only have one set on you and this feature helps you not get locked out. or if by yourself even with both keys, the car gets stolen with ur key inside... no insurance coverage.

just the same if my key is in the ignition. doors won't lock automatically. i like that feature. i never would of been locked out of any car the few times i dropped them inside with your feature.

You just have to be smarter (or at least as smart as) the tech and it's always good.

what everyone said...
I was also looking at altima before I got the 07 Max

While push button is neat, turning the "key slot" (if you can call that) isn't that bad

What I like about smart keys are
1) you don't need to use your key, or keyfob to open you door. When it's raining cats and dog, or your hands are full with shopping bags, that's a life saver
2) you don't need to have your key in your hand to start your car. Just stuff your keyfob in your pant/bag/etc, and just step into driver seat, and turn on the car

SmartKey is one of my requirement for my new car. Luckily 07 Max has it as standard feature

Mack, lol. The issue was that I didn't KNOW she had her key which was why it was driving me crazy!

I love the smart key. I clip it inside my pocket and forget it's there. One of these days I'm going to forget so well and wash it...
