Noise when steering...need assistance
Well, I usually figure all these noises out for myself, but this one troubles me. Here is the history: I lowered my car on GR2s and Progress a week ago. I also added the racingline FTSB if that matters. Every time I turn the steering wheel there is this popping noise and it sounds like from the steering. It is not a pop that I can feel in the steering, but rather hear when I turn the steering wheel when moving slow or barely at all. This may have been here before the lower, I don't know. I brought it to Nissan and they replaced the steering rack... I thought OK but I'm not sure if this is it. Low and behold 3 days later, the noise is still there when turning the wheel. I'm thinking the steering column, but wanted to run it through the collective. Thanks guys.
You sure it's not a screaching type of sound? My column has been doing this for quite some time now, and I'm pretty sure it's been discussed before, but I don't remember what the "fix" is.

Definetly not screeching. I have had the column replaced once already. It is a popping noise, but only when turning the steering wheel when going slow, say like to turn into my driveway.
I have that noise too. installing the V2 today...completely different. It may be the bump stop rubbing (I did put on the progress bump stop) when turning the wheel. i will figure it out tonight. Well got a free steering rack and alignment.
I have that same issue now, since I have eibachs on my max for 11mnths. Going on 9mnths the noise has been present more than likely I relate the problem to the lowering of the max.
Earlier in the year I took it back to the shop where I had the eibachs installed, the tech test drove and mentioned it was nothing major. I didn't have the time for them to take it apart.
May eventually go back so they can diagn. the problem, I moved to the other side of gwinn cnty so thats one reason why I haven't gone yet.

I had this poping noise and it was dricing me crazy. I had to remove racingline endlinks and install OEMs back and that took care of the problem 100%. Problem with those endlinks is two-fold.
1. ) Rubbers wear out very quicks and allow for play.
2. ) Bolt that comes with endlinks is smaller in dia then the hole in the sway bar allowing the bolt to rock and "pop" back and forth anytime weight shifts from side to side like when turning or coming up or down driveways, etc.

If you look at the oem endlinks, there is essentially a "nut" on one side of the swaybar that you have to hold to tighten them on. Then you also put a nut onto the other side of the swaybar.... You are essentially tightening the swaybar between two nuts, thus eliminating any movement/noise at that joint. I may try this today, as even with my V2 endlinks, I still get this noise. There is enough length on the racingline bolt that I can try putting a nut on either side of the swaybar to see what happens. I wonder if this will affect the performance of the endlink in any way (oh yeah, and I bought the expensive ES version of the V2 endlinks). It may be that I just don't have them tight enough....
Im sure everyone understands that the noise in the front is not the rear endlinks. I just siliconed the hell (lubricant, not glue) out of the bumpstop, which is where I think the noise originates and the noise is fainter and almost non existent. It erks me that the dealership which in my case has supposedly the brightest techs, didnt figure this out. I would not recommend tightening the rear endlinks too much and let them settle for about a week. i re greased the chassis bushings as well and so far so good in the rear. As for the front, I will be in touch.
