rattle at around 2500 rpm.

whatup...

i have noticed that at around 2500 rpms in steady driving...meaning slowly climbing rpms...i hear a rattle from under the car. doesnt happen at WOT, only during slower city driving. everything is technically fine with teh car...just wondering if this is anormal rattle.

I have a 2004 and i have the same annoying rattle on my max.
I took it to the dealer and they claim that it is the exhaust shield and they removed most of it but it still won't go away. It is annoying but it is harmless.

Nissan has a TSB on this problem, if it is in fact what Betep recommended...

Mine is cracked...just looked at it today. Bracket where the cats are located. Easy to notice with the rusting at the break.

yep.. my car has it too.......

i went to one dealership and they said it was the exhaust brackets... they need to be replaced.

then i went to replace the brackets myself and they were fine...

i went to another dealership and they said it was both exhausts producing the noise... time for some magnaflows...

Wow this is what happens when you dont look at a post for a while. Hate to get off topic, but you leave me no choice: instead of losing your temper on a maxima site, try doing some work and researching it first. By your quote Im guessing that daddy just gave you his car, because your step mom wanted him to have a miata and that you just found your first pubic hair a couple of days ago. Soon you will find a girl (or guy) and those pent up emotions will subside. Until then...search is your friend.

36k is bumper to bumper, some dealers may slip it into the 60k powertrain but it seems with each passing year powertrain is becoming more and more limited to just direct engine components where years ago, almost all mechanic parts that where associated with the engine where covered

My exhaust is making that same rattling noise. I looked at my brackets and one is cracked. Does replacing the bracket fix the problem? Has anyone gotten this issue fixed? If so what did you have replaced or what did you do?

I had my bracked welded last year since the dealer was out of stock on brackets. I've been looking for the TSB (stickies incl) because my rattle has come back. But was having trouble finding the TSB. A little help?

Did welding the brackets fix the problem?

I found the TSB in a previous forum. The topic of the forum is "Does my engine sound right?" Look at this forum and they have posted the links that will direct you to the tsb.

Thanks VM and welcome to the site. I did see that but the links took me to a download site and the PDF seemed to be for a different problem. I'm gonna keep looking, I think it might be on the other site and yes welding it did fix it temorarily, I just couldn't keep listening to that sound, made the car sound like an old beater LOL. I'm going for the real fix this time.

Okay found it: http://www.6thgenmaxima.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2273
I wish Prjct would put the pics back in though.

It also looks like this TSB is "closed" or gone away. I cannot seem to open it up. Maybe I need to sign up?

Thank you. I checked out the link you posted and I think I may try that. Are you shooting for the same idea? My car is still under warranty. I have 28k miles on mine. I wonder can I get the parts for free?

Nah, I just want it fixed. I'm way out of warranty at 63k. You should be able to get this covered under warranty just by driving in under 3yr 36k.

I went to the dealer with the same problem as well......but they said it has something to do with using regular gas and told me to use premium fuel only....... but with the gas price over 4 bucks and quarter, I rather live with the rattle.

Got the brackets today. Installed them and so far no noise. Hopefully this took care of the problem.

Is your sound a rattling or buzzing sound coming from the front of the car?

I hear this rattle too around 2000 to 2500rpm. I also have the diesel sound to at idle has anyone heard that it could be a lifter issue? I have a 60k mile warranty or 5yrs which ever is first. I have 2005 with 15k miles on it. If I can not tighten my heat shield or the exhaust brackets and it turns up to be somthing else do you guys have any ammo to use at the dealer or is the rattle even covered under my power and drive train warranties?
Thanks

rattle....

i have followed this thread for a while because i had the same problem.... rattling noise from under the hood (about the right side of the hood) on low rpms and on low speeds... i described it as being on a high gear on low speeds.... well, took my car to the dealer two days ago... just got it today... they said it was the engine mounts.... they "loosened the mounts and re-torqued" it.... so far so good... no noise.. hopefully doesnt come back... hope this helps...
