Replacing side mirror

I have to replace the driver's sideview mirror on my girl's '04 Maxima. I did a search, but all the advice seems to be for older models. When I looked at the door, it appears I'll have to remove the whole door panel just to get the tweeter pod out of the way of the mirror mount. Is all this true? If anybody can give me some tips or tricks to do the job, I'd appreciate it! I do all my own work, but this is my first time messing with one of these newer style mirrors.

TIA
Jeff

If you look around you'll find info faster than waiting for someone wanting to show you. Look in the TSB Sticky. You will find where to download the FSM. (factory Service Manual)

Thanks for the help, I guess. I tried to download something from that sticky, and it didn't have the information I need. I tried to download a second thing, and you're only allowed one a day. So I log in this morning and try again, but yet again it won't let me download. Why? IDK...maybe it's been less than 24 hours, rather than calculating a whole new day. Doesn't make sense to me. I've never seen a forum that put a limit on how many things you can download, or not allowing "noobies" to start threads.

So anyway, does ANYBODY have any tips on swapping out the side mirror on an '04 Maxima??? I've been told it's a PITA. It LOOKS like I have to remove the door panel and the tweeter pod, but IDK if I need any special tools or knowledge, or what. I really don't want to **** up my girl's nice Maxima. I'm used to working on old American cars and Toyotas, not Nissans.

Thanks!

For something this technical, I'd take it into a good shop. I know that isn't what you want to hear, but this is more technical than most work any of us have performed on the Maxima. There are a few people here that might be of help to you, but I've never heard of anyone trying to replace the mirror themselves. I can imagine, logically, that it does require taking the door panel apart and the tweeter pod out. Beyond that, I have no idea what the motor apparatus entails or how user friendly the project would be.

Too technical??? It's 3 bolts and a plug. It's not like I'm trying to reprogram the PCM with a Gameboy. And considering I did a search and there were people who had changed mirrors on older generations of Maximas, I didn't think people would stop with the 6th Gen. I just though somebody might have some tips. This forum is sad on so many levels. Thanks anyway.

Little more than 3 bolts and a plug, but hey, your obviously the expert, so why are you asking? Especially on such a sad forum? Your answer lies at hondaforums.com.

Look man, sorry if I'm coming off a little frustrated here, but I'm not getting any help. I never said I was an expert; however, I do work on cars, just not Maximas, so I wouldn't expect that I should have to pay somebody to do this supposedly simple job. That's why I'm in the Maxima forum.

Next, what is SO TECHNICAL about changing out a side mirror? As I previously stated, I had done a search in this forum for some help before I even asked the question. I'm not new to forums either. And as I said, the only how-to information was for 5th generation and prior. Since there is a tweeter pod on the 6th gen door covering the mirror mount...

ALL I ASKED WAS FOR A TIP OR SUGGESTION OR IF ANY SPECIAL TOOL IS REQUIRED to take the door panel and the speaker pod off to replace the mirror. So please, pretty please with sugar on top, WHAT IS SO DIFFICULT OR TECHNICAL ABOUT THAT??? I'd get in there and rip it apart, but like I said it's my girl's car, so she's at work, I don't have a lot of time to mess around with it, and I'd prefer to get it right the first time.

AND AGAIN, THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANYBODY COURTEOUS ENOUGH TO HELP.

Oh, one more question...How many posts does a "noobie" need to have before we can start a thread of our own, because as it goes I'm relying on people to check this thread to answer my simple question, and thus far it hasn't worked. THAT'S what makes this forum sad, Joshua.

Also, I'm not trying to replace any components of the mirror. I already bought the entire mirror and had it painted. There are 3 bolts and a plug on it. Once I remove the tweeter pod, it shouldn't be any trouble. I just want to understand if I need anything special to remove that from the mounting location.

+1 post...

I'll dig it up in the FSM after I get home from work today, be patient. I'll post PDF pics of the step by step instructions for you.

only thing i could find. not that old of a thread. but i guess u didn't like my advice. Not sure how the FSM didn't help you, I paid for mine, now a site lets you download it free.
1st post here states you need 15 posts. that was explained when you signed up. we have that rule due to the ridiculous amount of spammers/fake accounts.

Thanks for the link. I sent him a PM, so hopefully he can give me that insider information.

To your other point, I didn't find the FSM when I joined that Nissan Help forum, just bulletins. I downloaded the one about mirrors not working, and the advice was "replace mirror." So that didn't help. I checked a couple more times, but couldn't find the FSM. I must totally be missing it or something.

I must have glazed over the thing about the 15 posts too, but I totally understand the spam thing. It happens on every forum, and of course every forum has different ways of dealing with it.

I have enjoyed browsing through this forum so far in whatever spare time I could muster up. I am interested in doing some mods to my girl's car whenever I have a chance so I've been taking some notes, but I already have 3 projects of my own, including a Cadillac lowrider with hydraulic issues that keep me plenty busy.

Cheers,
Jeff

I now see you cannot download the entire FSM, just sections, my bad.

Yes, that's right...By process of elimination I excluded the ones that had nothing to do with mirrors. Does anybody know which one might include it? For example, I've downloaded some that seemed more general, like Maintenance, but that didn't have anything about mirrors. I can only download one per day, so I'll collect a few that I might need over time, but I'm not sure which one includes what would essentially amount to changing body panels, I guess.

Thanks again for the link.

Hey thanks again for all the help guys. I downloaded the complete FSM, and I'll keep that for future reference. They're great to have! I have the printed FSM for my '94 Cadillac - over 1000 pages! Mad Max also got back to me and confirmed it's a simple job and how to pop the tweeter pod out of the way.

I figured just so you don't think I'm a complete hack, I'll post a couple pics of one of my projects, my '94 Fleetwood Brougham lowrider, reppin Twizted Stylz Custom Auto Club. Don't hold it against me because it's not a Nissan.

All right, so for those who thought this was technical, it was pretty simple. Actually, the hardest part was getting the stupid plastic plug apart. The tweeter pod pops off but not out; it's bolted to the door, but by popping the top clip of the door panel loose, I was able to teeter the pod off to the side and out of the way. 3 bolts and a plug later and I was done.
