My maxima is sick...

Well while I was driving I noticed that the car was shaking at idle and even at low rpms. At idle I revved it and heard a little knock or 2 and when the rpms settled it knocked a few times. I was really scared that it was major. I thought maybe bad gas so about an hour later I went to go get gas. Sitting at a light I noticed the car wasn't shaking anymore and 5 seconds later the SES light came on. It kinda makes like a hissing type sound when revved to 3-4k rpms but its not an air hissing and i hear no exhaust leaks(I've heard them plenty of times). The idle is fine now so I'm just babying it till tomorrow morning till I can get to Autozone for a reading. Anybody have any input as to what this might be? Bad cat, bad 02 sensor maybe? Knock sensor? Belts are on and they are brand new. Probably not a MAF , I had one go bad in my 02 Maxima.

Sounds just like the code PO430, imo.

First thing I would do is go to your local autoparts store (autozone, advance, ect.) and have them run an OBD II scan to find the code & clear the SES light.

Wait a few weeks, and if the light comes back, then you know you have a problem.

My best guess, without seeing a code, would probably be a bad pre-cat or cat and/or a bad o2 sensor on bank 2.

Good luck!

Yea I'm definitely going to autozone first thing in the morning. I was thinking maybe a cat due to the knocking not coming from the top of the motor, Sounded more like from the bottom area.

2004. Intake is all, I checked the connectors and they seem fine, it happened after dark so I can't see very well but I'll check all of those in the morning. My vibramount for the Injen intake broke so it wobbles a little. I still will to go to autozone to get the code. Thanks for the input.

You have the CAI right? Try disconnecting everything from it and then reconnecting. I had the same problem recently like yours and I did that and fault cleared. I even took it back to autozone to makesure no faults.

Oh.....Did you get the reading from Autozone?

Yea it was a cylinder 5 misfire, p0305. The light went off and now the idle is back to normal Seems to be back to normal but I think I'm still going to tighten all the intake connections tomorrow just in case.

Ohhh ok.

I found this pretty neat link that might help narrow down the causes to this code. See para 3

The great thing about Nissan's warranties is that they transfer to the new owners with used cars. Also, this sounds like it would be covered under the power train warranty which lasts until 60K miles, unless your car was purchased over 5 years ago.

I'd call the dealer to check on warranty status, and then have them look over it if it is covered... wouldn't hurt anything anyway. It might even save you some headaches later on.

I agree.

I thought it was either 60 or 100K PLUS or 5 year including power train?
