Ideas for rear bumper design??

We have been talking about front bumper designs for a while. Although the designs are pretty nice, very nice actually, but they seem basically the same, just more aggressive. I was looking at pics of my car and other Maximas over the last 3 years really, and there is always something that bothered me about the car. That is, that the rear always seems bulbous. This may be shown by the fact that the 07 had a slightly slimmer look above the center area.

Therefore, I think the key to getting a REALLY sharp Maxima is to have a great design for the rear. I have talked with others on here about rear bumper designs, but I wanted to start a thread on the rear bumper itself for ideas for redesigning the rear bumper. I believe it will lead to a really nice result.

Since I can't draw, I will throw out ideas and have you talented photoshoppers make renditions.

Idea #1:
Someone did a rendition on Chern's car that was very very good. It had mesh above the middle area between the exhaust pipes. Great start for the rearmost area. I think if there is a way to slim down the side of the rear, by maybe having it swoop upward more, that would be great.

Idea #2:

Center exhaust - with mesh design above the whole area perhaps???? A couple of pics of concept cars:

Idea #3
Incorporate a rear diffuser - maybe use some mesh.

I wish I had skills in drawing and desgin, but I don't. So PHOTOSHOPPERS, please feel free to post your drawings and ideas on here and we can have front and rear bumpers that make our cars look a whole lot better. Remember, I think the key is to slim down the rear, both from the side view as well as the rear view. If I find more pics online, Ill post them in this first post using the edit function.

You talk about center exhaust, the idea might be cool but you do know that it'll take many modifications to get that result. First, we run quad tips so having quad tips to center is nice but not easy. Something along the lines of the new corvette

That'd look sick but it all depends on how many people would be interested in modifying their rear - end to incorporate such modifications. That doesn't mean just a new bumper, that means a custom - exhaust system as well. Personally, I'm not interested in touching the body of my 07 even though if i could, i would but that's just because it's a lease and it's a family car. Go for it, though - see what you can come up with. I posted the Corvette picture because that's more realistic as opposed to the concept cars. And talkin' about our rear end, we sure pack a FAT *** lol. Gluck Deus

First of all, its not necessary to go quad center tips. Larger dual centers will work just fine. Secondly, only the rear section of the exhaust would have to be changed, but it would be more complicated than leaving the exhaust alone. Third, many concept cars become reality, and they further provide GREAT design ideas because they are a bit above the norm in some case.

Ha, yea. I don't mean to be the pessimistic one here - but while these discussions are certainly entertaining and some nice ideas do come out of it, I just hope this rear bumper idea does not have the same fate of the all of other "nice" mods that have been discussed, but have yet to materialize.... i.e. led tail lights, CF hood, etc, etc....

You're right. I forgot to mention that but yes, you can definetely work with dual centers. Yeah, that's what I meant that you do have to do modifications to the rear exhaust system. Also, what i meant about concept cars was that you can atleast work with cars that are in production for example if you want to check out something, or buy their body parts to enhance our vehicle's appearance as opposed to concept cars. Again, You're right because Yes, they do provide great design ideas and I applaud the efforts you put into modifying your car based on your personal taste. I never put down the idea. I just said it requires extra modifications i.e. the exhaust system whereas the front bumper is easier to play with. I hope the corvette picture i posted helps to give you ideas in this project. I personally love the Quad tips design on the Maximas as it sets us apart from most cars on the street. Anyway, Good Luck - I can't wait to see some good rear bumper designs floating around.

P.S: If i was good in photoshop, I'd be more then glad to help out.

Here's a few pictures I found:

# Rear Diffuser

I personally think the Skyline GTR Rear End Looks awesome.

# Center Exhaust

lol, i wonder why that happens with the Maxima crowd because ideas do come into play but up until production, it takes a lot of efforts to get it going and i really hope most projects do come into production especially for me - it's the LED tails as I don't plan to touch body as of yet. It's taking forever to come with them LED tails - i mean cmon, you're not launching some secret mod - it's already out in the open, get them out already :P jeez...!

This was the topic of a thread i started where I asked why 6th Gen owners seem to be different from a lot of other car owners when it comes to modifying. http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=539449 NO one replaces steering wheels, very few replace seats, when even Mercedes, BMW, Audi, VW, etc etc etc owners have no problems modifying more items of their cars. Anyway, back on topic . .. . keep the ideas flowing.

Sorry, I just had to say this - I love your Recaro Seats and your Steering Wheel, Trust me when i say this - I absolutely love it. I'm sure driving your car and chern's car is a dream because I'd definitely want to jump the band wagon and do the same but unfortunately, to me it's about money and the fact that it's a family car as well. I'm doing as much as I can - suspension, performance, looks - everything except body. But Don't Stop - I absolutely love your cars

P.S: I know you know your stuff when it comes to performance etc, Can you please visit my thread here and help me out, Deus? Thanks in advance.

Anyways, back on topic

My vote goes for something like this ^^^^.
So, can I put it on my X-mas list for this year? or year 2040?

This is a sweet design for the rear of the rear thats also very do-able. Id like to see a slimmer styling. Maybe raise that whole bottom section towards the middle about 5 inches or so, so it slenderizes it? Ya know what I mean?

Doing the center exhaust will take the customized exhaust with a few more bends in it and I don't think that would be good for the exhaust flow. Stick with the basic exhaust layout and work from there.

Or go with the side exhaust....

Can someone photochop the greddy exhaust with this setup? I think it would look pretty hot.

DEUS the first one (gtr) is cool as hell but let's see the original concept with the center raised 50% or so up, IMO that is a winning design!

The reason that the raised up one may not work is that the exhaust has no where to go. Its as raised as is possible, unless someone has a better idea?

I agree, and also agree that the center could stand to be slimmed/raised a few inches to take away from the bulbous rear...do we agree?

I would love the to see the Max have the 07/08 nose and a Lexus type rear. It would look hot coming up in someone's rearview mirror and the even hotter as it passes him by.

You are soooooooooooooooooooooo right

The Lexus LS460 entire rear is very nice but I especially like the exhaust design. Maybe the 2009 Maxima will have something similar.
