6th Gen BOSE is ****e...anybody feel me?

I haven't heard much about this in the 6Gen forum, and read only a couple of things about it in the Audio/Electronics forum, but the Bose in my 06 skips bad! I find it's mostly when the car is cold still. I am at 29k miles now and it has been doing it since around 20-21k. IT'S DRIVING ME NUTS!!!!

I am going to the stealership next week to have it looked at (and hopefully replaced), but I want to go prepared. How many six-genners have had this or similar problems with their Bose?

Maybe a poll for this would be best.

"The Bose premium cd player is neither premium nor plays. Discuss amongst yourselves...."

ive been having the same problem. Its random tho. Sometimes it does it, sometimes it doesnt do it. Quality and bose dont mix. It sounds pretty good but its made like crap.

Dude, I don't think you count Big Pete. You have so many other problems going on it may skew my findings. Ha! Just kidding, man. Thanks though, it's good to know I am not the only one!

Seriously, I had a 90 Max back in the day with the Bose and it did the same thing. Surely this problem hasn't made it through 3 more generations!

When its cold mine skips too, and sometimes just for fun it plays louder or only out the right side... if it wasnt for the stock navi it all would have been replaced by now. IMO the sound qualtiy of the bose in my 4th gen was way better and had less issues, but recently i am finding this seems to be the whole car in general.

My 6.5 Bose is solid. I'm somewhat of an audiophile with a well trained ear and have no problems with the sound quality.

CD never skips, but it never gets below freezing where I live.

The changed everything else about the center console from 6.0 to 6.5, so it wouldn't surprise me if they changed up the audio system.

Must be the big boat tires absorbing all the road impacts better

I am pretty impressed with the base stereo, good over all blend of sound and descent bass for not having any subs. I wish I could easily swap in my closet full of equipment but the head unit is holding me back.

When it's cold, mine skips like a 4 yr old playing hopscotch... Drives me nuts also, when the car warms up it's fine and I rarely have the problem in the summertime...

Same here. I can't play the CD at all until 20 minutes after the car is driving and warm. I'll take it in soon. Also, the SSV does not work properly. Most of the time when I slow down it will lower the volume and never return it. I can't bump the sound like I want because the gain is turned down and this is controlled with "SSV".

What i found that happens when it skips is that when its cold the cd gets cold also, but when you start the car the cd starts to get warmed up in this process the cd's builds condensation on it or rather a light fog on it which ends up causing it to skip. Usually when its skipping remove the cd and touch it you will usually end up seeing where you touch the cd its gets foggy.

I just got my 6th gen and haven't played with the CD player yet. If it is a POS....how hard is it to replace w/ aftermarket? I assume its much more complicated since its Bose?

Many years ago when I was in college I worked for a big box audio/video retailer. We had a saying: "No highs.......no lows.......must be Bose"

I replaced it at like 20k and now its happening again and I am out of warrenty. Its more often skipping than not and I will be ripping it out for a new aftermarket unit that isnt a piece of **** very soon. It is a lost cause getting it replaced IMO, go aftermarket and be done with it. Bose is junkey overpriced marketing hype for the home theater and they obviously make junk car stereos too. Oh well, not as though we had a choice.

had that in my car, dealer had to replace some sort of pre-amp (amp) to get it fixed. Works since then.

As to the head unit, it used to skip like a bish and that was replaced later too. This one had couple of hickups last year but I haven't noticed anything laterly so so far I am happy.
