Front strut mounts

So it ends up that the "squeak" that was coming from my steering column is the front strut mounts...so says my mechanic. He also said to replace the "bearings"...which bearings is he referring to? I know that many of you have been talking about the bearings, but which ones and where are they located?

If I were to get the strut mounts, then should I go OEM or just get some from the local parts store?

let me know pleaz

There are bearings that go on top of the struts. Those puppies are not cheap. I think I remember them being about $60 each. They are white in color. They go between the hat and the top of the upper strut.

...I'm assuming that those aren't in the strut mounts?

OR is it shown in picture 8?

do not i say again do not buy the KYB ones. I had bought some struts that inculded the mounts and added them since i was doing all the suspension work and it is off. too much play in the middle which makes noise over a penny... i changed it back to OEM and the noise is gone.

Its not a bearing in the true sense but more of a friction reducing bushing. Usually a white plastic like someone else said. That sux they are expensive b/c its a high wear part. That website linked might be a complete rebuild kit for the top mount, bushings, isolator etc. Its expensive at Napa too, $37 b/c it comes with the top mounting plate, not really a wearable part, wtf?

Should be the white item.

So the white item is the only thing I would need? If I were to buy the entire strut mount...would that be already included in it?

The white bearing/bushing comes with the strut mount but I would try and find just the part you need first. Go to dealership and ask and check RockAuto.com

For only $16 per mount, I think that's pretty cheap...referring to my link. I'm going to call some stealerships today and ask for pricing.

My bad, I was looking at the MSRP. If the isolator comes with new bushings, then that's not a bad price.
