Question about the progress springs.

I was wondering how much you guys paid to get your springs installed, Also is it possible to DIY? Someone mentioned to me you need a spring compressor to install them so im guessing you cant.

Thanks

I did a before and after on this. Just search and you will find pics. Most places install for about $100 a corner..expensive. I did it myself and well worth it. You do need a spring compressor and listen to no one who did it without one...not worth it.
By the way...the boobies are giving me a chubby

I dont know why I should have to insist you use a spring compressor...possibly to keep your hands and face attached. You can rent them. i got mine at advance auto and payed a deposit and then when I returned it, they gave the full amount back. Nothing to pay...pretty sweet. i would recommend you do some reading up on it if you want to tackle it yourself. Realistically only 7 bolts to remove to get the whole strut assembly and spring apart. Also, get a friend to help. I never tackled this before mine as well but it really is not that bad. good luck.

Me and another member did mine in his driveway. No spring compressor... The fronts really did'nt have that much load on them. With beer, cig breaks Id say it took a whopping 2 hours. Alot of auto parts stores rent compressors. You might check into it. If you're not comfortable doing it yourself, pull the whole spring/shock assembly out and take them somewhere to unload. I cant see that costing that much. BTW they (progress) come with fairly easy instructions. WATCH THE BRAKE LINES.

IMO, you dont need a spring compressor. i know it not the best way to do it but the way i did it and have done it in the past is take a vise grip and clamp it onto the shaft about half way in the spring. aim it at a wall or fence and loosen it. at most, itll shoot 1 feet

Vise grip on a strut shaft? Might as well toss those in the trash. Springs compressors are easy to use with an impact wrench and are $20 to buy or rent.

I would not recommend removing springs without a spring compressor. Especially when they are not that expensive, (mine cost me $50) and usually very cheap or free to rent from many auto-parts stores with a deposit. I know there are people who have replaced the spring without a compressor and not gotten hurt, but will you be that lucky? is it really worth the danger/bodily harm?

For Christ sakes, a nice spring compressor from "autozone" cost about $30.

You are saving at least $300 by replacing the struts yourself. This is a no brainer!!! Buy one already. Enough already with the "you don't need a compressor".

I have replaced struts on our cars at least 9 times. It's easy and you get a lot of pride by doing it yourself. In about two hours you're done.

I have posted directions with pics on proper alignment of the struts.

I/we can give you phone support. Just do it man and save a bunch of money.
