I broke my wipers!
I am such a moron, I did a big no-no this morning turning on the wipers thinking they were not completely frozen but they were. The pass one went and the driver stayed put. Went outside and pulled the driver free, nothing. Tried them and the pass crisscrossed over the driver's and locked in place. Pulled them apart knowing ive totally f'd things up and I was right. Driver's moves up and down about 6" and thats it...its dead. DIY possible?

Hey great news!!
I popped off the cap and there is a brass nut..it was on very loose. I tightened the nut until there was a reasonable amount of resistance in the wiper again when you try to move it by hand. It works perfectly again and took 3 mins to fix. The wiper has a fail-safe where if the motor is trying to move the wiper and it dosent go, that nut unscrews itself because you tighten against the direction the wipers go when they go up initially. Good idea!

Dead Wipers on a 2004 Max
After two weeks of searching for wiper malady information (detailed descriptions or pictures) which I was hoping would help save a trip to the dealer, I finally caved and went to drop it off for out of warranty service at the local Nissan dealership. The wipers would not move; no sound, no nothing. Twice I had checked all the fuses on the fuse block in the car by the drivers left knee...all checked good. I checked all of the fuses next to the battery under the black fuse box cover...all checked good. I inspected the fusible links off of the positive battery terminal, and all looked good. I was down to pulling the panel to check for power at the wiper motor, which would have been a chore since the area to work in is not that big. I guess it was at that point I gave up.
This particular dealership service department stays open late on Mondays (with limited services) so I really just expected to drop it off and pick it up in the AM. ( I figured $90 for the shop, $50 - $100 in parts). Apparently, they were not busy so the service rep asked what was wrong before he started to write the ticket. I gave him the short list and what I had looked at. He popped the hood and took a quick look, then claiming he had not worked on very many Nissans, asked if I checked the fuses on the opposite side from the battery. Of course the answer was no, since that area was covered up by a large plastic baffle, and I never saw any mention about that area in this forum. He popped off the baffle cover and low and behold, there was a larger fuse block that I never would have had a clue existed. He pulled and check all of the fuses and found a 20 amp fuse that was blown. He replaced it and the wipers worked fine now. Total cost, yeh, I took it in the shorts for $2.90 for the fuse, and I forced the guy to take a Lincoln for coffee and a doughnut in the morning, but it could have been worse ($7.90). I was in and out in about 10 minutes. Just goes to show there are still some good people out there that will help when they really didn't need to.
So a word to the wise...pull off those trim pieces when you need to!!!

Alittle off topic...BTW... Prestone has a really good de-icer spray for windows now... its great before nights of snow or possible frost and stuff like that. Just spray the night before and nothing sticks to the windshield.
