Good Shimmy Advice

I was reminded by another poster on 6thGenMax who spoke about having his car balanced. I wanted to share my experience with the effects of a good balance on the 2004+ Nissan Maxima. After numerous other attempts, Hunter Road Force Balance completely eliminated the shimmy on my car. Mine is the stricken 2004 with small bushings in the steering column, any small problem produces profound effects on steering. When I got my new tires put on, I could barely drive the car. I took it to two places before I took it to a new shop that had the computerized Hunter. An hour later it was like a new car. I believe this might be beneficial to some of the cars out there with the vibrations in the steering wheel as well.

This balance was enhanced by a FSTB from Racingline as well as the Progress RSB. I believe these contributed, as well as the painting of the calipers

Joshua, I thought you fixed it after cutting off the under tray lip.

"Mine is the stricken 2004 with small bushings in the steering column"

isnt it possible to "upgrade" the bushings to the 05+ max since they were larger? i am thinking now that that part # is updated for the larger bushings.

I had the same shimmy develop, I had a wheel weight fall off and it was rebalanced by a shop the the latest roadforce balance machine and the tech didnt know what he was doing and put all the weight on one spot instead of splitting the weight, took it to the shop i usually use and they rebalanced it correctly by splitting the weight between the inside rim and the outer backside edge. The second shop didnt charge, they said the RSAs were under warranty and did it under the Goodyear warranty, but my dealer told me they would have to charge me for wheel balance when i asked about a courtesy rebalance at 14k miles. The dealers stink, and the latest greatest equipment is useless if the tech is a newbie. So far my RSAs have held up well.
