How long do you let your car warm up in the morning?

hahaha ^^^^^ anyway i know all of you guys are worried ab8 your engine not reaching proper temps but what ab8 the tranny?? trannies fail on cars more than engines do. and my mechanic told me that it is really bad to drive a car when its cold and not at operating temps. i still think its a good idea to warm up your car especially owners like me who has more than 1ook of miles on their cars.
waiting for that needle to reach normal does not mean everything is warm. this is biggest reason why idling damages a car more. people think it is fully warm and drive normally while most parts are still cold.

Auto trans fluid warms up faster when the car is driven at moderate speeds for a couple miles, I realized that years ago when I use to let my 4Runner sit and warm up, and it drove like it was cold so I did some reading and realized driving at normal around town speeds was no harm to it and made it warm up 10x faster.
I think most people are just trying to protect their investments, also I've read that hard acceleration on a cold engine is like 500 miles of premature wear on the engine.

I let mine warm for about 1.2-1.4 hours. Then I slowly drive keeping the RPM's around 23-25. I only drive through the grass for the first 5 miles (making sure there is plenty of water on it to make it mushy). I've installed a water misting system to keep the engine nice and moist to prevent detonation.

BUT it can only do its job when warmed up to the proper operating temperature which can range from 700 to 800 degrees C by the hot exhaust gases. That's why a cold engine with a cold cat puts out a lot more pollution then a warm engine with a hot cat!

My friends house has a driveway so steep that the stairs next to the driveway are practically cut into the driveway, it's impossible to walk up his driveway, his Acura Vigor which looked showroom new had the engine cease at 117k, guess all those cold starts going WOT got the best of it
My uncles special order Caddy Deville long wheelbase burns way to much oil for a car with 100k and in mint condition but he believes that warming it up is a myth, his theory is driving it warms it up

I think u misunderstood me. Anyway normal driving to me is below 2.5k all the da time because there is no point of reving that high over here because it just mean i have to stop for a light in like a second. But my question is if your engine is a little warmed wouldnt some heat transfer into the tranny or am I just a dumass and should stop talking about this?mayb I should try ur method tomb on theway to school

from all the posts... it seems that the 'max' can handle "15 min warm ups" or "15 sec warm ups".... lots of owners out here are now having this car for close to 5 yrs ....and have not heard of any serious engine or tranny issue....
only thing i can think of ...is some of us might be saving money (and that little thing called 'the envnmnt.' -)

I've also idle wastefully for an hour (weekly occurrence) but I since stopped that, all I really noticed was crappy gas mileage.

Warm Up car
Just something for you guys to think about. Everyone seems to be going a little overboard warming up their cars. I don't have a 6th Gen, my car is going on 7 years now. You guys that do 10 to 15 minutes every morning are spending almost 4days year to warm up the car. 4 DAYS! I just start it up, wait 30 seconds and go...it's at nearly 220,000 miles (I travel a lot around the country in it) and it's still running strong with no issues (knock on wood)...just something to consider, you guys might be wasting to much of you're life warming up cars.
