People with Pioneer AVIC

I have a 04 max SL & I am thinking about getting the Pioneer AVIC-D3X & came across this PAC SWI-PS. this allows you to control select Pioneer stereos with your factory steering wheel controls.

My question has anyone done this?
Does it work with our stock wheel controls?

Yes. I have it and it works great. Wired it up myself.

Everything works except the power button for me...

Good...only thing it doesn't have is the RDS feature (most aftermarket radios do not) to show you the song thats playing on the radio.

You have to get a tuner for XM. There isn't really anything to bypass, you get the harness (on eBay for $5) and plug right in.

I also think I'm going to purchase the D3. Can you tell me if there is a noticeable diff in the sound quality of say XM radio and Ipod vs cd? Do you have any opinion on the sound quality of the unit??

There is no double DIN kit for the Max, you have to buy the single and cut it to fit.

And esmooth, are you talking about a difference between the 3 or compared to stock?

And Donkalion, I would suggest going to pioneer.com, some of your questions are easily answered by looking up the D3...

jsmithsole,

I would like to know between the 3 and stock as well. I'm pretty confident it would be an improvement over stock, can you confirm? I would listen to mostly Ipod and XM radio on the D3, so how do they compare to cd....if you even listen to cd anymore because of the Ipod?

Well better than stock for sure, are you planning on upgrading/powering your door speakers? IPOD sounds great, XM as well, CD's are stored in the closet...

Yes, I plan on upgrading all the stock speakers so I can really "hear" my music. I'm thinking of having a single sub (12") in my setup. Also some amplified components up front. Man when it comes to audio there is alot of info to try to digest, esp in the audio threads!!
