Could it possibly be the traction control malfunctioning? Turn it off and see what happens.

This is just a guess because what you described is what the engine does when you are stuck in the snow unless you turn the TC off.

**********I have a SPARE ECU for an 04' 5spd Max**********

Let me know if you are interested.

I can take pics of all numbers, pins, case, everything.

When I got my TS flash, I purchased a spare and sent it out, so the one that I have sitting in my safe is the one that was in my car originally. I want to say that there is about 25,000 miles on it.

Let me know and I can sell it to you for a small fraction of what the stealership wants...and then all you will need is to just install it and get your keys programmed to it.

The ecu required is for a 2004 no adaptive cruise control, traction control, or vehicle dynamic control model with 5spd auto.. Does this fit the bill? I hope so

Tis' what I have!

That "adaptive cruise control" thing is a joke... none of the 6th gen cars have that...which is what confused me when I was in the market for a spare ECU.

No TC
No VDC
2004
5spd auto

How the hell does an ECU get fried anyway? I've never heard that happen before. I guess just like a PC wears out, occasionally you can have an electrical issue in your car's CPU.

Sucks regardless. At least it wasn't extensive mechanical failure.

ok it could be a number of things you could have a bad fuel rail not getting fuel to the injecters or a bad fuel sensor that wouldn't let more full in the engine or a bad Mass Air Flow Sensor if the MAS is bad it tells the car you need less fuel

Only problem with that is that my friend who happens to be a tech at nissan swapped out the IPDM, TB(whole system), and narrowed it down to the ECM.

I have a 2007 and had the same problem, after taking it in for service many times and was told it was fine, finally I told them I was going to get killed because I could not merge out into traffic -- I thought I was going to get rear-ended a few times! The service manager took it for a ride finally and had the same response, even though nothing was showing when it was hooked to the computer. They replaced the transmission control module and it was like a new car again. Now I have a weird "low gear" sensation when I'm hitting 40mph, it feels like a standard shift car and I feel like I should be downshifting. It has a sluggish deep vibrating feel which again they can't detect. I feel like they don't take my complaints seriously because I'm blonde and female! Love my car but getting very tired of bringing it in, I think they think I just want a free carwash sometimes.

If you bought it new and they refuse to fix it, report it under a lemon law...

So what are/were the details on removing/swapping it out? What were the codes again?

Don't know the codes off hand, but they're going to have to replace the entire unit and reprogram the keys.

But on a brighter note, if all goes as planned, it looks like it's going to get fixed after all! Big thanks to Luke and Johnny for all their help!

Nope. I had it at one dealership, then had it towed to another to see what they can do...they still don't know what's wrong with it.
