Unplugged the MAF to install HIDs, now I got SES. How do I clear?
Hi, yesterday I installed HID into my fogs, 04. I unplugged the MAF to make it easier to remove the air assembly.
I turned the ignition to "on" approx 10 times to try the lights, and then back to off, with the sensor unplugged.
After that, I plugged everything back, started the car for a ride, and I see that I have a service engine soon light.
COuld the code have been registered when I turned the ignition to on even if I didnt start the car? So basically it just saw that the sensor was unplugged, and even if now it's plugged, it keeps the code?
Will it just disapear in a couple of starts or do I have to reset the SES light?
How do I do that?
Thanks

You got the SES light probably because of the aftermarket HID fogs.
j/k
The code could be for something else. Why don't you go to AutoZone first where you can borrow their scanner for free and see what the code is then come back to the forum to see how to fix it.

No autozone in quebec canada
Dealer will probably ask a ridiculous fee and want to keep the car the whole day to scan it so thats out of the question I guess.
I hate canadian tire because they hire retards.
No way I can just clear it myself ?

When I start the car, the SES light goes off for like 3 seconds, then it comes back. Does it always do that, or it means that the issue appears a couple of seconds after I start the engine? (not talking about all the lights that go off during the crank).
I cleared the SES using this procedure:
Turn ignition switch on and wait about 3 seconds.
Repeat the following steps (2a and 2b) procedures quickly five times within 5 seconds.
2a. Fully depress the accelerator pedal (HARD).
2b. Fully release the accelerator pedal.
3. Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 10 seconds until the CEL starts blinking.
4. Fully release the accelerator pedal (while the CEL is still blinking)
5. Wait about 10 second.
6. Fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for more than 10 seconds.
7. Fully release the accelerator pedal (The CEL light will continue to blink).
8. Turn ignition switch to “OFF” position and now you can start the car. The CEL light
SES is gone, I guess I just triggered it by turning the ignition to ON with the MAF unplugged.... If it doesnt come back, it's allright I guess.
I think I'll get a code reader though, they are like 100$ on ebay, and canadian tire asks 50$ to pull a code... lame. Always useful.

I always read the stickies and search.
There was no previous thread about someone asking if turning the ignition to on without starting the engine with the MAF unplugged could have triggered a SES light that wont go off with 1 day of driving.
That is why I asked.
I believe this was a fair question.
Good evening

fair enough, but you obviously found how to clear the cel. if it doesn't return, then that would answer what you expected. turning the key with the MAF unplugged. you also answered your own question again by considering to buy a code reader.
