This Weekend's Project....

Time to replace my stock struts and shocks.

I plan on using Coolmax05 step by step instructions. Seems easy enough and it will save me $300-$400...

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=394305

Wish me luck!

Oh yeah. Just yesterday I replaced my strut bearings. Made a nice difference!

I recommend you replace those while you're at it. At the dealer they run $37 each but I got mine on line for $47 shipped.

i changed the mounts i've done countless suspension jobs on 4th gens and that's the #1 problem when your dont with your set up and drive around and hear any noises.... bearing i would change it also its up to you if you want to hear noises or have problems.... i mean new suspension do it all at once

hey thanks guys... Im a little nervous working on the struts and shocks alone. So having Coolmax05 and Kidd4L help out will speed up the install and ease the nervs....

Hey Coolmax, what time on Saturday would be good. I was planning to work on mine at 6am... dont know if thats too early for you.

I can bring my own tools to help with Kidd4L install. I bought some spring compressors, wrench and socket set and liquid wrench spray.

I will pick up a set of bearings and mounts today from stealership...thanks for the suggestion.

Hey Ron & Rick, good to see you guys.

Mission accomplished! It was fun. Your rides are great.

Unfortunetly the rears were the wrong type. Rick & I (70% Rick) replaced the struts assembies with GR2's. We also replaced both strut bearings, (1) boot/bumpstop, (1) strut mount, and of course shortened both bumpstops.

Ron's new exhaust sounds and looks awesome. As usual, I was jealous of Rick's toys (GPS, IPOD, ect...). And yes the LED's look fantastic in person.

Until next time guys keep the wheels rightside down, and keep 'er washed/waxed as clean as Rick's passenger side strut.

BTW Thanks for the pics Ron.

Thanks again to CoolMax05's suspension knowledge. Trust me when i say guys, he knows his Maxima's suspension. As for the work. It took us 4 hours to complete due to driving to the dealership 2 times for extra parts.

I plan on doing my rear shocks today and i will take some pictures. The shocks are the easiest and should take no more than 1 hour.

Because of busting my ***** yesterday of how dirty my car was, i took it to get washed. Now my car looks as clean as my passenger strut.

Alright...strut bearing=the little gray plastic thing that spins around, correct? I already replaced those and it seems as if I still have an awkward noise...only other thing to replace would be the strut mount? You say that the dealer has them for $37 each, but I got them for like $15 each...so same product? (I did get it at cost, but I'm pretty sure that retail wasn't $37 on them)

Don't mean to thread jack, but there were some posts relating to this already.

Actually, at my dealership the cost of a strut mount is $27.50 (retail). The $37 was related to the strut bearing. And yes replace the strut mounts next to hopefully relieve the noise. Also, make absolute sure everything aligns properly in your re-assembly of the strut and all associated parts. The grey round donut thing IS the strut bearing.
