300zx calipers

Just checking in... what's the going rate for these and whichones are the better one by popular opinion: aluminum turbo 90-91 calipers or 92+ cast calipers?

Just checking, I got a lead with a national parts supplier and may be able to do some magic.

I went with aluminum and I paid $80 a couple years ago on ebay. By the time I rebuilt them, bought adaptor, painted them, put in good pads, etc. it cost about $400.

How does one count the pistons in the calipers, the OEM 6th Gen Calipers are single piston but have 2 pistons, 1 for each side, so a 4 piston setup would have 8 in the caliper right

That doesnt make any sense. The OEM calipers have 1 piston in each caliper, 1 piston on 1 side of the caliper. The 300zx calipers have 4 pistons per caliper, 2 piston on each side of the caliper. The OEM and 300zx calipers are totally different calipers. The OEM is a sliding caliper, the 300zx are fixed. Hope that clears it up some.

So how do the 2 pads compress onto the rotor if only 1 piston is in the caliper, I thought u would need a piston to push on each pad

[ l ll l ] o

bracket/caliper-left pad-rotor-right pad-bracket/caliper-single piston

Single piston pushes on right pad and that pushes on the rotor which also pushes on the left pad.

All pistons push on the pads with more surface area and equal pressure

Taz, Ive researched these for quite some time and the going rate for the fronts remanufactured sumitumo aluminum loaded with pads are ~$300 give or take $20. These are not ceramic pads and are just OEM, but thats ok with for now. I would like a deal if you have one.

Thats because there is a sliding part to the caliper. Take ur front wheel off and look at the caliper, or better yet, take off the caliper. You'll very clearly see how it works.

this has tons of info on it.....

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=395990

i am just cutting and pasting some of the info from ^^^ that thread..
i know someone said this already....
Here is a quick break down of the calipers for the z32:

1990 NON Turbo used 26mm Aluminum
1990 Turbo used 30mm aluminum
ALL 1991-1992.5 (Turbo & non turbo) used 30mm Aluminum
ALL 1992.5-1996 (Turbo & non turbo ) used 30mm Iron

Extracting the key point here, as long as you look for calipers for a 91 Z32, you are guaranteed to get 30mm Aluminum.
30mm part and brand

here is info i got first back in 03 when i was looking to do this....

http://importnut.net/300zxbrakeswap.htm

as you know
matt and jeff sell brackets

matt's bracket uses stock +04 maxima rotors
jeff's uses 13 in mustang cobra rotors...

Taz, i am sure you have already found most of this info.. just trying to help...

thats the basics..........

I'm still working on pricing, so far being in canada is a big disadvantage when it comes to part reslling, since these calipers come up through the US, my supplier has already paid import fees which inturn get marked up and pushed onto me.

so far the best I can do is a front set of calipers with PBR ceramic or semi metallic for about $300 (core charge included), which is about the same as what you can get online already....but we'll see what I can come up with.

Joe, would you be supplying front and REAR brackets as well?

I think you would make a nice profit if you were to invent/produce a rear adapter bracket for the 300ZX calipers.

For the 6th gen are the calipers and parking brake separate? On my 4th gen, the only reason I didn't do the 300ZX caliper in rear was I wanted to keep my parking brake.

I was out for over 2 years after selling the business. And the company I worked for blocked the .org so I never signed on. I recently switched firms and can check things out again. I no longer have my maxima though. I sold it to Euromaxima about a year ago. I've got an '06 IS350 and now that I've had it for about 2 years, I think I may start working on it. Nothing like what I did to the Max though.

I used to have a is300. My lease on the max is over next year and was going to look at a is350. Good things to say about it?

It's a great car; I got mine back in Feb. '06 so it was one of the earlier ones. So far, so good. The back seat is useless, but I knew that. Going from the Maxima to a Lexus was night and day in terms of fit and finish.

And to keep things on topic; for those of you who want 300ZX brakes, I would highly recommend getting the Cobra rotors. For me, that made the brakes. I originally had just the 300ZX brakes and rotors in '00. It worked ok, but I was slightly disappointed. Then I swapped to the Cobra rotors with Jeff's adapters and all of a sudden the brakes were exactly what I had been expecting. Power went way up.

Cobra rotors are just that, rotors off of a Mustang Cobra. They are 13" in diameter as opposed tot he 300ZX rotors which are 11".

There is gonna be a huge difference between 300zx rotors and OEM Maxima rotors (1.6"), and maybe a slight difference between OEM Max rotors and Cobra rotors (.4")
