04-06 vs 07-08

Does anyone know what the key differences are with the 04-06 vs the 07-08? Whenever i look around for parts it always says it will fit the older car, but not the newer cars. Would most of these parts fit the new cars, but were just specificly made for the older cars?

From what i have seen on the boards since i was a member, it looks like the only differences are the interier, the headlights, the grill, sideskirt, and the transmission (stick vs cvt)

If there are big differences then why is the 07-08 not considered the 7th gen, and the 09 considered the 8th gen? Or is the Gen something that nissan themselves coins.

generations refer to complete body overhaul and sometimes powertrain. You pretty much nailed everything.

Fog lights no , headlights yes. Foglights can be accessed from underneath.

I think the OP was more or less asking what are the actual differences between the models even though they all pretty much look the same

Why would 07-08 be next gen when nissan only facelifted it? New gen = totally redesign. Maybe that's just me...

Is this thread suppose to be educational or a question thread? I'm having a bit of trouble identifying it...

I was asking a question, i wasnt sure how they did the generation rating but it seems to be based on a complete redesign from what everyone has said.

Someone did bring up a good point, how do you dyno a cvt? Does the cvt tranny pretty much mean its almost useless to put in engine mods? Since you never shift then you must be loosing out on your peak performance points. Has anyone ever seen or have a cvt tranny with engine mods? I would imagine that drag is straight up out of the question.

it's not that it's pointless you still shift....once.....but the only mods you couldnt do would prob be tranny. any engine mods are good as on any other engine.

Depends on what your take on 'slow' is. 14 seconds is slow by todays standards, but it's quite quick considering the drivetrain.

It's faster than about 90% of the 6th gens I've seen run at the track.

Good point, I often think that we are in the new "muscle car era" each year the cars get faster and faster. Foreign and domestics. BTW nice link you posted up there.
