Others respect the maxima

was doing some thread searching and found some things people say pretty interesting..some think of our cars as a big slow family sedan..and the smart ones know what the Maxima is about..here are some quotes that put a smile on my face and make me PROUD to be a Maxima owner..

From other car forums:

"isn't a maxima like a full size sedan family type vehicle?"
"Yes but it can has teh 265hp VQ35 ZOMG!"

"The VQ series of motors are no joke. I wouldnt want to run against one with a manual. It's going to be torque down low."

"The VQ has a ton of torque and decent top end."

"Under the Hood: There's only one engine in the 2004 Nissan Maxima but it's a beauty. The 3.5 liter DOHC V-6 delivers 265 hp plus 255 lb.-ft. of torque.
Hmmm....yeah....265 hp without 20% drivetrain loss doesnt seem all that bad. Not to mention the VQ is going to have a rather flat torque curve."

"Just the same, the Maxima is quicker than most think or are willing to admit.
The 3.5L Maxima's are putting out between 255-265 hp (the one is question is 265) and surprisingly they only weigh about 250-300lbs more than a wrx... despite its size. They pull hard and that VQ puts out torque like a V8.

6spd Maxima's are even worse for you wrx fan boi's. They consistantly run mid 14's @ 97/98 with a handful of good drivers getting the 3.5L maxima's into low 14's @ 98/99mph."

MY FAVORITE:
"I think that's why i've always liked the Maxima... People like you guys underestimate it so much for what it is."

"Do we know that this maxima has the fantastic and magnificent vq35 though?"

"hummm i never thought thoes were that quick"

"Yeah, most don't realize.
They're not super cars or anything, lol... But a lot of people are surprised to know what the maxima can do."

"Those VQ's are serious business"

".... That car is FAST. Forget a stock rex on the highway, it won't have a chance against this thing. No question. If you are looking for a nice looking fast sedan for a second driver, go check this baby out."

"however I saw it on the road and that totally changed my opinion of the car. It is unlike anything I've seen on the road. Quad tips..wow! You have to see this car in person to appreciate its beauty."

"Yikes! Its a beast now. At 4k rpm, the intake changes geometry and it wants to run hard. Sounds comming from the engine will raise yer shackles. On the interstate, it'll go. I dunno how I'd fair against it even with my mods. Toss in the slick shifting 6 speed(long throws, but silky smooth), nice taught suspension and quiet ride, and its a steal at the 23-25k that they cost. They take to mods okay for a NA car too. Y-pipe, intake and pullies and 300 @ the crank is not unheard of."

This all makes me feel good when I sometimes see other cars I like on the road saying "maybe I should have gotten that" Newer cars may be coming out that are faster..but the Maxima will always live up to it's legend. We have the perfect blend of just about..everything.

One more thing I realized about Maximas is the owners...most of us on our forums are really down to earth and really friendly and mature. A lot of other forums have a lot of d-bags on them..so makes me feel great to be home at the org.

Here are a few more I found (I love getting the feeling like a tear is gonna come to your eye but you get this laugh instead)

"...but I would have to put my money on the Maxima. I have driven my buddies 3.5 and it has a suprising amount of TQ and pulls pretty hard. Lots and Lots of snap in those. Torque steer is a biotch in those things. My buddies(3.5) gave my 4.2 a run for it s money once. He was hanging off my rear bumper the whole time. It should be close, but again, I vote for the Maxima."

"nissan is no joke man"

"The Maxima engine is bullet proof though and can be built up to some hefty HP"

"but the VQ is a quality motor for sure"

"I was surprised they kept up as well as they did, pretty damn fast car if you ask me. It was the 3.5 SE version, not sure how much horse they have but it was no slouch. I also think it was an automatic, since I didn't notice gear changes."

Man..I love it. I just think it's really nice to have some respect and envy from others.

I respect my 06's performance so much more when we bought a second sedan...arguably in the same class as the Max. You won't find me driving that thing though, I let my wife take it where ever she wants, despite the fact it's fully loaded, and our Max is stripped.

The Max rules...in our garage at least.

Just about everyone who has seen my car (even BMW & Mercedes drivers) says "nice car". Even people I think would frown upon it usually give me props.

I can tell you there is a Hemi jeep driver that now has massive respect for the Maxima.

I had to open up a can of whoopazz on him and he was fo sho suprised as hell (only whooped him to 55mph then allowed the blow by).

Great post! Thanks...

Here is another non-maxima owner respect thing that happened to me.

One of my buddies..into higher end german cars..I let him take the Max for a drive...let him get on it some...he was pretty damn impressed when he took it out. First off he couldn't get over how smooth the engine was (even for 112,000 miles and also commented on how "For such a big (Nissan) car I NEVER would have thought this thing would have that much torque!" and asked what I had done to it and I said basically nothing. The sound of the intake alone make him go "wow" so someone used to the finesse of German cars was impressed by a Nissan.

Interesting post. Nice to hear what other people think of the Maxima. I've always felt Nissan hit the nail on the head with the 6th Maxima (even though I've always loved the previous generations body style) I still prefer the look over the Infiniti's (except for maybe the M45)and Altima's. But for the money, it really is IMO the "the perfect blend of just about everything". I believe it's going to be one of those classics someday that people remember and wish the would have never gotten rid of....like some of the older cars that Ford and Chevy are bringing back to life. (late 60's early 70's Mustang, Challenger, Camaro style)

I saw a 1997 Cutless Supreme Brougham a couple of days ago, burgandy and great shape...same type of thing. Loved those cars.

WORD! My son just told me the other day while we were cruising the interstate; "Dad, everyone checks out your car, I saw this truck driver.. those kids on the bus pointing...."

A couple of Hemi R/T's (Charger & Magnum) have some new respect after I beat them both at the track last Wednesday.

Well I must say...I do have some decent respect for the Hemi R/T or SRT8 Chargers..they are a good looking car and they sound mean..and i've heard they really move...I just like the overall package. The interior could be a little better in terms of quality..but the price makes up for it I guess.
What mods do you have done to your car that you were able to beat Hemis? I dont want to race them(stock)...I do not want to give them the impression that the Maxima is just another japanese ricer.. and give it a bad name. Im leaving it up to you (sleeper) modded VQ's to show them what its about.

A Hemi Grand Cherokee does 0-60 in about 8 seconds, fast for an SUV but not gonna beat a stock 6th Gen, going against an SRT8 would be different

I think theyre a bit faster than that..esp. the 6.1 here are some specs I found

2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT 6.1L Hemi,(0-60) 4.8 (1.4 mile) 13.5 (MT Feb '06)
2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 (1/4 mile) 13.2 (R&T Nov '06)

...I dont think a 6gen will be able to beat those... :/

I agree that a 6gen in not gonna beat an SRT8JGC but the Jeep Division of Chrysler sells a 5.7L Hemi for those that don't want the 4.7L V8 and the top end is the 6.1L in the SRT8

I have a 4th gen but it's still in exc condition and gets looks, but more so than that it gets a lot of shocked looks/questions at the track... That sleeper factor is something I just love with this car (the Maxima in general, any gen).

Yea the 5 gen body style was and is incredible. That cars styling is genius.

I bought my 6 gen after I realized I couldn't afford a Mercedes CLS 63 AMG, and I realized that in about .02929 of a second. To make matters worse one of my best friends just purchased one of these 2 months ago and wow it is just nothing short of Godliness. But as far as looks are concerned, the slanted styling of the 6 gens back window and roof line are really, IMO, the only thing out there that look so bold as the CLS in that respect.

There were a few guys up here in Toronto at my work that kept talking nonsence about the Maxima.
1) How it looks big and slow
2) Dude, you should have gotten the Altima SE-R
3) Nice boat dude
Keep in mind that most of these guys have no car experience whatsoever..( I work for IBM..most of the guys are techy computer wise)

I recently had a challenge from this guy (name will remain anonymous, PM me to find out ALL the info). I was coming back from lunch and he decided to rag on my (should I say OUR car) I felt like enough was enough and asked him what he drives.
"I have a 2006 GTI that will destroy your boat dude"
Apparently he has a bi-turbo that puts out 350hp as well as some other "goodies" that he did not want to talk about (apparently they were TOP SECRET mods)
One look at his monstrosity and I knew that Wal-Mart and Canadian Tire were in business because of this guy (fart can, NOS decals, massive wing that was crooked, best of all TRD racing decals, still laugh at that one!!) I figured he needed to be taught a lesson so I called him bluff.
I told him what I have done to the max and he was not impressed (clearly he knew nothing about cars). He wanted to lose $800, so we made a deal.
We ended up going to a nearby commercial location (will remain anonymous) and needless to say that I had him beat by at LEAST 3-4 car lenghts. I just kept in automatic (did not even have to think about tiptronic) and smoked his ricer behind...pehaps now he will appreciate the Nismo and do some "homework" before talking smack...

Hope you guys enjoyed this as much as I did writing it!!

I think the reason people say you shoulda bought a Altima SER is because you shoulda bought an Altima SER. According to Nissan the 6th gen is the biggest flop of a gen that ever wore the Maxima name tag. The thing does look and ride like a touring sedan. Previous Maximas were four door road handling cars w/*****. Agreeably the 6th has a decent power plant but as far as an all around sports sedan they grad low as a Maxima. I like it because it's a Maxima but if I was looking for a sports sedan during those Sixth Generation years I woulda purchased an Altima like the majority of people who made that same purchase. If I were looking for a touring sedan however the Maxima would have been my choice however. In my area it's a big hit with chicks.

I see these all the time in Houston. Even better is when the cheap ground effects are flapping in the wind. Who in their right mind would want to trick out a ford escort anyways?

I've travelled around the country and I can say one of the advantages of living in New York is not having to look at tricked out Escorts. I've seen em in the Corolinas, Texas, New Mexico and even as far north as Maryland. Hondas Nissans and Toyotas pretty rule the road in my city. We have awful roads and need more durable vehicles.

I got some heat at work when I first got the 05. A few guys were like "you could have bought the Altima with the 3.5 for less money". I finally let one of them drive it and they were thoroughly impressed. While the Altima is a good car I feel that there are just too many of them on the road. Any thoughts on this?

I have had a few runs with SER's and had no trouble taking them. I think that most of the people ended up getting an SER because of the cosmetic features. I had the option of either the 05 maxima or the 05 SER. I test drove both and to be quite honest I think that the SER handeld just like I expected..an Altima!!
The maxima is able to be modded a bit more that the Altima SER(a friend of mine has the 05 SER and after a CAI and a few other simple mods he is only putting out 295 or so) I am currently putting out over 330+ hp to the wheels so it all depends on what you like.
I just wanted to know, why would you come on the maxima.org site, on the 6th gen page and start beating the 6th gen down?? I mean even if it's a car that you personally don't have great appreciateion for, it's the flagship of Nissan...as per the altima (it's been styled to "resemble" the maxima ever since the 02 version came out)

I agree with you 1000% bro

I felt the same way when deciding to go with the Maxima or the Altima. I never even looked at the SE model because to me the Altima is a smaller version of the Maxima. I mean if you are going to shell out your hard earned $$ why not spend it on the best 4 door Nissan money can buy right ??

You get power, performance, 5 seater (4 on the Elite package) and ability to make some mods that will allow that car to perform like you never thought possible

Agreed, The we also looked at the Altima SER and regular Altima 3.5, And we picked the Max. We loved the interior and the way the car drove. The SER drove ok but did handel like the 3.5, the after driving the Max the decesion was easy.. Man FTW.
