6th gen Winter

How is the 6th gen in the winter? I know this is an early question but I'm thinking about getting a small SUV for when winter hits. And i mean a new england winter...

The Max is fine in the winter....you just need winter tires.

just know how to drive in the snow. otherwise it's all about tires. all seasons should be fine. cheap tires are cheap tires. or get snow tires if you see a lot of snow.

I would agree with the post above. I can feel your pain living in Portland, ME winter sucks here. I had an Infiniti J30t for many years (RWD) and i felt much better in the J with snow tires than I did last winter with new all season tires. I would say if you have to drive it get snow tires

Tires FTMFW. All seasons FTL.

Get a dedicated winter tire for the winter, and a dedicated summer tire for the summer, more expensive, but tires are the last thing to cheap out on.

Yeah, I got my tires from Wal-Mart. Dunlop 17/55/225 for $96 each. A very decent winter tire for the price.

I am not sure what Boston is like but if you get snow like Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine, then you need winter tires. The Max is too powerful....you will just end up destroying your front end spinning out all the time.

^^^^ Yep, bought some all season for the winter here in Denver Co won't be doing that again. Going with some decent snow tires once these wear out.

i thought about doing that BUT, I might drive in snow 3 times a year. when the ultra performance summer 20s come off for the winter, i planned on upgrading to Toyo Proxies 4s.

though the Pilot Alpin PA2 look interesting

Oh man, you are so right. I would live there in a heat beat. I am, however, Canadian, so I just can't roll across the border and set up shop. But if I could I would :>)|

What's the difference between Stability Control and Traction Control? Would have been nice to have AWD also.

It's confusing cause it's probably the same thing just each car maker slaps a different name on it, simply put traction control sends the power from the wheel thats slipping to the wheel thats not, front wheel or rear wheel, whatever is driving the car but some cars now have an entire system which monitors under steer and over steer, keeps the car heading in a straight line so you don't lose the back end coming around a slick curve at night

The Maxima has it on the models equipped with the Elite Package, I don't know the specific name cause each car maker has it and gives it a different name

Im in buffalo and ive put mine through several feet of snow with no issue...just need to put the right tires on it. Stock will cut it but you wont be impressed bc the rims are too wide to really cut through the snow well.

I would probably just get a set of dedicated snow tires/wheels, several mags have already done multiple test showing cars with snow tires can perform just as well as awd vehicles with all season tires

I loved my AWD 4Runner but it was such a downer that the last couple winters in NY the snow never amounted to more then 2 inches, I'd rather miss a day and leave the car parked in the garage then risk having someone slide into me, people can't drive when it dry now cover the roads with snow, Im tired of all the people who suddenly become professional drivers and slide out of control in their new vehicles.
