Power folding mirrors

I was wondering if there is a way to wire up our mirrors ( those of us who have power folding mirrors) to fold closed when ever car is turned off or alarm armed and open when turning car on or disarmed..... Is this possible??

its definitely possible, all you need is a couple of relays and some extra time to figure out a wiring diagram

Would you want to put them through that much work. I only ford mine in a few times a month. I'm sure it's something $$$ to fix if the motor breaks.. I hate when people fold them in by hand, I had a mechanic do that once right after I told him the were power fold in mirrors..

My boss' Audi A5 has this feature. If you park in a small parking garage it's used quite often. I would like to do this too. If someone makes it work please do a write up. I'd really appreciate it!

This is an optional feature on most top end European luxury automobiles (Audi, BMW, Mercedes) and I don't know why Nissan went through the trouble of installing power folding mirrors and not having the option of folding them when the car is turned off. Obviously the functionality is there because the rocker switch is three position. However, from what i'm reading of the 7th generation, it no longer exists.

I fold my mirrors at least once a day for the last 3 years and the motors still work. Noisy but they work. It's a nice feature and i've tested the functionality. It only really helps if someone is walking by, not necessarily if another car is beside you opening their door because of the angle they fold at (in instead of up (BMW)).

To reference an above post, if you could get the middle or top position to close them when the vehicle is turned off would be a nice option. I'm not into messing with electronics at that level so we'll wait for someone to come up with a simple mod. I'd pay 100 bux for it.

i agree i love the folding mirrors and would love the feature for them to automatically close if teh car is in parked or turn off, the closest to this option is when i put my car into reverse .

I love my folding mirrors as they are. Just a button to press and it folds. It would be cool for it to automatically fold up when car is turned off, though. Be the first to do it.

You could hook it up to your cigarette lighter since it's on when you turn the car on and off when you take the key out.

still need a relay to let it know to fold back in once the power is removed.

Its one switch, I usually just double check everything (make sure my windows are up/nothing is out in the open/fold my mirrors in)
and once the engine is off and you open your drivers side door you can flip it to the OPEN position so next time you start your car it automatically opens up.

BTW for our car it has a 1-5min timeframe where current is still running through our car once the car is off (to close windows/sunroof/etc) but once you open your drivers side door the current is lost/disabled. So you cant close your mirrors and leave it on the OPEN positions until you open your car door.
