how-to change DRL in 04 Maxima?

hey guys, got a canadian 2004 maxima se. My DRLs are both burned out and a cop was bothering me. How do i change these? does the bumper have to come off? or??

any suggestions on which 9012s I should use? and what is this I am reading about a cold solder point on one of the DRL relays?

Didnt think I would say this one day but:

I wrote a complete walkthrough because I had the same problem. It was in the search with the words "DRL" :P

Just buy regular replacement bulbs... 1156 i think. Check the manual.

Here is my how to do it:

Ok I did it without removing the bumper... Heres the DIY

Passenger side:

Easiest. Remove the black plastic cover, 5 clips, out.
Remove the washer fluid pipe, just pull on it.
Remove the coolant reservoir by unbolting the 2 10mm bolts, no need to remove the hose, put it aside.
You can now access the fog light really easily, and the DTRL bulb can be untightened easily with needle nose pliers, then take it out, change the bulb, place it back, and tighten it with needle nose pliers again (too tight for fingers imo).

Driver side:

Remove the black cover over the grille. (4 clips)
Remove the front air intake (4 clips)
Remove the air filter top (unscrew the collar), de-clip the 2 clips, and take it all out. Unplug the sensor here DO NOT TURN THE KEY ON WHILE SENSOR IS UNPLUGGED or you get check engine. Remove air filter, remove the bottom part of the air filter assembly by unbolting one 10mm bolt, and then pull up on the whole thing. Pull straight. It's only 2 rubber rings with plastic ***** in them. I did not pull straight up and I broke one (kinda weak). Superglue fixed that.

You are now able to easily access the fog light, and it's the same thing to access the DTRL bulb. I used needle nose pliers too.

Thats it! So that might be useful for the ones who want to install xenon fogs without taking the bumper off. Not needed, really. I think you can change all the bulbs but the xenon one without taking the bumper + headlamp assembly off.

It took maybe an hour but I had no clue what to unbolt. I think anyone can do it for the second time in 20 minutes or less.

Hope it helps someone

thanks guys, ended up taking off the bumper and unbolting the headlights. Just finished. The bumper, grill, and some plastic trim inside the engine bay all had to come off. I am not comfortable taking off coolant bottles, etc

yes they were 1156 bulbs. got the sylvannia ones at wal-mart. I love how 2.60$ bulbs take 2 hours to install...

Thanks a lot Kryogen !
It was so easy and so quick !
I did not need nose pliers. Just a screwdriver, my fingers and one glove.
