Fresh New Filter

Old Filter before removal

Not as bad as I thought.. Came with a golfball size of those stringy tree twirly things.. Never been changed by previous owner thats for sure. I wish I had snapped pics of what I found under the rear bench when I was installing my grounds.

Is the air flow direction up or down? From your picture it seems to be down. Am I correct?

For a Nissan OEM filter the arrow goes up!!! For an aftermarket filter the arrow goes in the direction of the airflow which is top to bottom.

crap...I'll have to change mine this week now. To my knowledge..it's NEVER been changed. I have an '04 SE w/105k miles on it... and it's been through the air in St. Louis, MO...Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana, and now Houston... I can't imagine what that thing looks like... you can count on some pics here...

changed mine today for fear of the grim reaper nesting up in there... must say I'm not going to win the award though. I've got some leaves, dirt, seeds, misc crap like that...but no bones (I have a june bug...does that count? ). Didn't look that bad for as long as it's been in there and as many miles it has on it.

I'll have to post pics in a day or two. My wife has the camera at the hospital with her so I'll have to go get a memory card for this other one.

Cabin Air flow through the filter in a 6th gen is Top to Bottom (so direction of air flow is DOWN)...

Hey filter changers, I also discovered that Bosch makes a non dealer filter available thru parts suppliers. It seems a little flimsy compared to the stock one but it is Bosch so I am sure it filters to the same microns as factory unit. Installation is very staight forward except for one part, the old Nissan filter had airflow arrows to help proper install, the aftermarket one I got did not. Ya say, so what, well My father in law has done heating and air for thirty years and one thing He will tell ya is a filter is useless if installed backwards, the air flow will be restricted and the particles wont be trapped as well. Was mine a defective one? did your filter have arrows? I tried to observe the way the vents were facing on the nissan filter but it really isnt clear, my air seems to flow well but as for filtration would be hard to see microns, ha ha. Where I work there is about an inch of fall out daily(very fine saw dust) I really need the best filter possible,so I will probably go back with the nissan filter next time. Unless you guys know of one that is better than the Bosch, I wonder if K&N makes one? I bet it would be non disposable, that would be cool but it would probably get an odor issue after reusing several times. Well if anyone has a good way to tell me the direction please pm me,P.S. I tryed blowing air thru it with my air compressor to see if it flowed better thru one side or other, no difference could be concluded. Maybe the Bosch is not directional, but I doubt it.maxman7

houston air can be pretty damn dirty at times, especially near construction zones.

it's kind of scary how many people simply forget to change their cabin filters. imagine all that crap they're breathing in once the filters exceed their usable life.

Thank GOD I work from home then!

...it still sees enough drive time though...

I noticed here I change the Central HVAC filter more often than we did in rural MO.
