04 Battery Life ?

I have a 2004 Max that I got at in May of 04.

Nissan says that the battery is going and I need a new one to the tune of $160.00 installed. Do I really need a battery as the car starts fine. Was on vacation for a week and the car sat....started fine today. When to Autozone to have them check it but the guy could not get the machine to work.

So if I need a battery do I

1) go with Nissan
2) Deka $92.00 self install.
3) Carquest (made by Deka) $80.00
4) Walmart Everstart $76.00 (I know that consumer reports gave it very good marks but they have changed there testing and it is not tested in this size
5) Exide 84.00 (they make the Walmart battery)
6) Interstate $125.00 (not heard good things here)
7) other

i would go with option 2-7 you choose. You seem to have done a fair bit of research into the matter. Keep in mind how demanding you are on your battery when you make your decision. If you live somewhere that gets really cold in the winter keep an eye on the cold cranking amp. Another consideration is how long do you plan on keeping the car.

typical life is 3 years. But since you couldnt get it tested properly take it someplace else. Hate yo buy a battery and it be something else.

one of the problems with bad batteries, is not being secured properly (excessive vibration). and people who just do short drives all the time and don't ever give them a good drive to charge them up well (ie. old people)

no offense to any of the "older" .org members. i don't make the stereotypes i just notice them

yea im near a new battery point to.
BUT BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING! clean your positive and negative ends. Chances are you got major corrosion and your not getting a good connection.
SECOND! go back to another/same autozone(theyre real good for batteries and the sort) and get tested again. Dont give up untill you tested it.
THIRD! If you do need a new battery buy it from autozone and self install, its real simple. Just remember positive is red and negative is black.
Good Luck Bro.

The OEM batteries suck, mine didn't even last 3 years and I wasn't the only one. They're a few threads on this if you do a search. Buy an Optima battery and never look back. They're dry cell technology, made to be abused great for cars with systems or that sit parked etc. They have 3 year free replacement and last up to 10 years, way longer then other batteries. They run about $160 after taxes and fees at Cosco. Best battery IMO.

Do not buy the Nissan battery. I got less than 3 years out of mine. Put an autoZone top of the line battery in there for less than $100 and it is doing fine. NAPA has a good battery as well.

Just so you know, once it goes, it really goes. One day it was dead in the driveway at my house and wouldnt even crank. If its going, get rid of it ASAP unless you want to be stranded.

Yea if you really want a great battery for your card then go to autozone, they will take care of you. I dont know much about that optima battery but autozone has a whole wall just for batteries and the sort. Just go and check it out atleast.

Actually I killed my stocker twice. Put it on charge everyday for a week and its been great so far. That was last year.

NOw that it is getting colder I recommending taking out the stocker (if for whatever unknown reason you still have one) and put it on a charger overnight. It will revive it a bit and fully charge it, especially if you are into a lot of short trips in the city.
