Where does the front passenger airbag deploy on a 6/6.5 gen Max. I can see no opening in the dash above the glove box SRS location. Most cars have a panel located in this area of the dash the lets the airbag out. The dash in the Max appears to be a solid piece with no opening.

Could it be that the airbag actually breaks thru this dash area and then the entire upper dash has to be replaced?

What a stupid design.

about 80% of all new cars have the passenger airbags this way... why im not so sure. but even the ones with the "doors" cut out in the dash, 9 times out of 10 it still tore the vinyl on the dash as well. so i guess they said screw it. and hid them

i believe that this design was implemented to prevent air bag theft. as an end user you don't need to open the compartments and do anything to them. All other bags, like the ones in the seat are sawn in. If you get into the accident and survive because these airbags deployed the price to pay for a new dashboard or seats is tiny price to pay for staying alive and well.
