lagging

well lately ive been experiencing some lag in the engine when i put the gas pedal like i was gonna kill some little civic. for some reason when i do this i get a real long lag like if instead of going fast im cruising it at slightly faster speed. other times it drives like it should which is quicker throttle response then a stock maxima. can someone give me a solution this problem?

I only get lag when I first put it drive, or first put it in reverse

Heat soak? Get NWP spacers and i hear this problem may go away.

im starting to think that a short somewhere may be causing this. everytime my car performs as it should it is only when the cluster goes out, which by the way has been happening alot. when the fuse is replaced it tends to do the lagging. i havent taken the car to be checked out yet but i plan on doing so soon, unless someone can give me an opinion.

Far less lag with the nwp spacers. But temp does have a play in this. It still happens to me as well. And yes, our auto trannys do have a lag at times.

What is this lag actually referring to, or is this something a person with no mechanical or small common sense towards cars would point out

An example would be, my Maxima does not pull as hard as my M3 did another: my car sits outside all night and when I get in it, start it up and put the pedal to the floor it sounds weird and lags

Depending on how you drive your car you may or may not experience this said "lag" or heat soak. For those of us with auto trans, you can feel it when mashing the gas to the floor (with a CAI, not oem) or when in tiptronic, usually in 3rd gear...almost seems as if you are spooling a huge turbo very slowly...its that kind of feeling. CAI can cause this, loss of low end torque/power but nice gains up top. NWP spacers also helps this issue, from what i have learned thru the org. Reduced intake air temps = smoother power band, from what i can tell.

Again from my own experience, this statement is in-correct. With the max i noticed that you have no lag when you run on a cold engine/tranny. Once heated up to operating temp, and beyond then you can begin to feel the lagging, most likely due to heat.

I had 2 Pathfinder and those things lagged, on a hot summer day I felt like I was towing something, never felt that way in the Maxima

i've noticed that when the engine is cold i dont experience the lag but only when the engine is already hot. im assuming its because of the heat soak but what worries me is that its seems as if im mashing the gas on 3rd gear or so. (by the way i did forget to mention its an 04 auto). im just praying that its not the tranny. if the cause is from heat soak..why would my cluster always burn a fuse?

Early 04's came with a 4-speed auto tranny. Later 04's were built with a 5-speed auto tranny. Which do you have? Most likely it seems as if heat soak is your lagging problem but the fuse on the cluster burning out probably isnt related at all. May just seem like it is.

This just sounds like a delay from the ecu driven TB/accelerator and the torque converter on an auto. I have the NWP spacers and just as stated, depending on where I'm at in the rpm curve or gear I get a slight delay no matter what temp it is. I just think it's the way auto's work. Heat soak or spacers may have nothing to do with this. Interesting topic.
