Roof Strips Painted Black

Beautiful day today so I decieded to paint the roof strips black to go with the rest of the theme of the car. They look much better in my opinion. Also installed new 6K lights in the mains and took some night shots with my new SLR camera.

I used textured spray paint. I guess I've gone a bit crazy with it, painted all the silver interior pieces the grills and engine parts with this stuff. I like the nice flat look!!

The black strips look great! What specific paint did you use? (eg. Brand/Type/etc) which store did you buy it from? and the process you used to paint.

Thanks!

Can someone please explain the process they used to do this?Mine are looking pretty bad and I want to paint them.I did a search and I really didnt find any useful info. Id like to know the following:

How do they come off?
What kind of paints are used to do this?
How do you prep the chrome surface?

I hope this isnt asking too much but I dont want to screw them up.

BTW,the ones you guys did look awesome!! Ive said it before and Ill say it again, J your Max is by far one of if not my favorite on this site!!

First off thanks!!!!

Secondly here's a semi decent quick write up.

Removal:
They are held on with clips, that need to be popped out with a small screwdriver (careful not to scratch the paint) I did end up bending mine a bit so be careful! (also be careful as you get towards the end as the end you started with will be swaying a around, mine ended up scratching my paint)
I should have paid better attention when I did this, sorry for the vagueness!

Paint:
I used rust-oleum textured paint for plastic/metal (both types because the part by the back window is plastic, that's why it doesn't look lk e the roof part!!) I got it at home depot.

Prep:
To be honest, I didn't do much. I lightly sanded the surface and then went straight to paint.

Easy mod huge difference, and you can do it in any color!! But i"m sure blk will be the winner in most cases...

Crap, like I said I should have paid more attention. There we're I believe 3 along the windshield and 3 or 4 more along the roof. And the rear comes off with screws...

Very cool!!Thanks for the write up J!!BTW,love the black out look.Id like to see your Max someday. You live in Socal, right? LA or Orange County??

Im sure this is a very easy thing to do,but to be honest Im pretty scared. If it gets screwed up some how it will be a major eye sore. I WILL do this I just need to make sure I allow myself plenty of time.

Once again thanks!!

I did my '07 last night-thanks for the inspiration Jsmithsole & JoesRedMax! So much better looking. I left them on though. Just taped & masked everything off w/ that blue painters tape & trash bags I cut up. Pretty much covered the whole car. I also used rust-oleum satin classic low sheen. I had everything at the house already. Very easy mod, with fantastic results-don't be scared. On to the next mod- I'll post pics one of these days

First off I want to apolgize to JoesRedMax,I dont mean to hijack your thread. You did a very nice job on yours.Which leads me to my point.

I would like to say this.I figured I would give this a shot because mine do look bad and its seems relatively easy.Let me add this:

Do not attempt to remove these strips except for the following conditions:
You know what your doing or Your feeling pretty ballsy!!

I tried to take one off and these things will bend like crazy.I dont know the proper way to remove them, but I think for most of us painting them on the car is the way to go.This is just my opinion, but I think there will be some P.O.'ed Max owners if they try to remove them. Its not easy.
