wondering..
as some of you may already know, i just bought an 04 SL yesturday, its awaiting pick up at the dealer still, but i have been reading alot on this forum, and i see alot of people having trouble with there trannies. is this something i should be worried about, since i dont have a warranty?, i drove the car and it wasnt the smoothest shifting, but it shifted smoother than my friends impala SS, shifted smoother than my seville STS, so is that just nissan?, or are the nissan trannies supposed to be really really smooth??

Ask them to check for any tranny codes before you take possession of it. Tell that you are concerned about the history of the tranny and that you want a grace period in writing. Just because it is a deanship does not bean that they won't sell you and problem child. At the end of the day, they want top sell this car. Negiotate the issue so you make a purchase that you are happy with.

What do you mean by wasn't the smoothest? At light acceleration it's pretty smooth. If you floor, you should feel it shift. Is it clunking or making weird sounds when its shifts? Is it a 4sp or 5sp auto?

It's an 04SL so it's got the 4speed auto, sometime during the 04 model year the trans was switched to a 5speed auto like the SE.
Now I don't think the 6th Gen has anymore problems then other makes just that if you read online you will come across more problems, before you take the car have them check the maintenance records, whats the mileage, you should be able to negotiate a 30k or 60k service into the deal before you take the car.
They will do anything to sell you the car, once you own it they will not care anymore cause they already made the sale

You are probably fine then. If you floor it, the rpm will get up there around 6k and it you will know when it shifts
If your car ever throws codes, autozone can pull them. They have never charged me. They can clear the codes too but if you plan on following up on the codes with the dealership, I would just leave the code there and let the dealership clear it.
