Gas Meter

Ok I'm not sure if anyone else is having this problem but its really annoying

I'm averaging 21.6 miles per gallons which means I should be able to theoritcally be able to get 430 miles before filling up right? please tell me why my gas light comes on at 275 and the Nissan computer goes to astericks at 285 miles...it's really hard to tell how long I can go before filling up also I changed my dash led color to blue well gec did and the fuel guage is showing pretty much right on E. Possibly meaning the needle is off...does anyone know if the needle brig at a certain level is what turns on The gas light or something else

I dont know where you came up with the 430 number but if i drive to dead E and fill up i only put in at MOST 17 gallons of fuel(and only 93 octane since day 1). Therefore 17 multiplied by 21.6 gives you 367.2, not 430. So, your AVERAGE mpg is 21.6, but your car is not necessarily burning that exact amount of fuel. Id say 275-300 miles per tank is all your gonna get.

And she don't get any better in the winter....our big *** engine uses a lot of fuel just to get to operating temperature. Throw on some winter tires and SNAP...you poor. All I can say is thank good for $34 a barrel.

Man I can barely do 400km on a tank of gas, let alone 400 miles. I don't know where you got those numbers from but 285 miles on a tank of gas isn't far-fetched. I don't think your sensor is off; you just need to realize that our cars are gas-guzzlers. Well, most Nissans are. They just have big gas tanks.

Plus, 21.6 is an average which means that when you accelerate that average goes down. No offence but if you drive like an ******* it doesn't help, either. Also, you should never let the light come on... it's not very good for your fuel injectors. I never go below the quarter before E.

Ankit, you still have at least 5 gallons of gas in the tank when the low fuel lite goes on, I've gone 430 miles on 17 gallons of gas = 25.3 mpg, 80% parkway - 20% local driving, I did 475 miles on 19 gallons once

yep, well aware of the 5 gallon reserve which IMO i think is excessive but guess it helps?

anyway my point of posting i guess was to really find out what turns to indicator light on whether its from the computer or the actual physical location of the gauge...
Heres a pic showing how low mine is

i've also kept track of my mpg and fillup times over the past couple of weeks

12/6
381 miles before fillup
23.7 mpg
Filled up 17.478 gallons

12/13
21.8 mpg
353.5 miles before fillup
16.71 gallons

pretty much i've decided im not filling up before 350 miles no matter especially if im averaging 20mpg. I mean in worse case i should be able to get 400 miles out of tank so i think 350 is a good place to fillup? i guess personal preference, i just get annoyed at my gauge being so low (which i'm gonna fix) and being unable to tell exactly where i stand...

um be careful. it is a 4 gallon reserve not 5. E equals 16 gallons used. the light comes on before E as a warning just like other cars.

just because it holds 20 doesn't mean you try to run it that low.

I agree. I monitor my mpg all the time. On avg I get about 290 a full tank before the light comes on. On all highway I get around 360 a tank. What your seeing is a trip overall . Hit the bottom button that displays " MPG and DTE" That is your REAL live time mpg. It should be around 15-19 depending on the way you drive.

Seriously? You only get 360 before the light illuminates on the interstate? I used to get at least 450 on the interstate before that light came on. But then again, I set my cruise control at 70mph. My record for best MPG was 32.something.

i used to get 23.something before the fujita, now i get 22.something on the mpg page but when i calculate after i fill up it is always 1 mpg less. i like to reset the mpg page on the highway and get like 31.something have seen 34.3 the highest. i need to find a steep grade, i would like to see 50.something.

Reset & do a steady 43 MPH with cruise on for several miles= 38-39mpg
