Painting Chrome wheels
I'm gonna paint my chrome wheels on my 6th gen and was wondering if you guys had any tips? I've read it's hard to get chrome off but many have used 180 grit sand paper and have gotten good results. Primers are what concern me. Let me know if you have any input or if you have done this before. Thanks.

Use nice fine sand paper and make sure the chrome has no pittin. You have to sand the chrome finish properly in order for the prmer to hold so the paint can absorb right. otherwise in plain english I'tll look like crap... just take your time in process. You can hit up Maximumobsesion was selin 20' MOMO's were chrome he painted blue then white. He might be helpful.

alright, so sanding them is taking forever so I'm gonna take them to get sandblasted this week for $20 a wheel. The guy said that it would etch them enough to paint. I'm looking to do something like UNFADABLE's wheels, since his max is f'in cleeeaaannnn

I just got my rims back from being sandblasted today. I only had them do the face so I didn't have to take my tires off. I just ended up sanding down the lip with 120 grit followed by an etch prime, filler, prime, and paint. Still in the works though. I'm gonna work on them for the rest of the night and hopefully I'll finish them. Just some pics.

Fine for crap winter/snow wheels, but you'll find that the paint will lift at the tire bead. I hate to be a downer, but you really need to use a two part clear over any single base coat or spray a two part epoxy based final color (not tolerant of the sun) or your time/effort will be wasted in less than a couple of years.
Personally, I would have removed the tires, sandblasted everything and then sent them out for powdercoating. Live & learn!

looks good like chern said ...to each his own...as long as u like the end product and your car looks the way u want then spray on!!!!.
im in the process of painting my wheels gun metal...not sure which would look better on my car so if i use paint and i dont like the end color then ohh well i just lost a fraction of what i would have getting them powder coated.
with that said if i do like the look and the paint starts chipping then by all means powdercoat here i come.
just my opinion

I just got done clearing all 4 wheels, now just waiting for them to dry. I'm getting in my springs tomorrow also so once I install those tuesday, I will put the wheels on and take some pics. I liked the way The Presence's car looked with the AG springs and he said they rode better than intrax so I went ahead and ordered some. Hopefully the outcome will be nice.
yeah, if they start to chip or anything then I will powder coat them. Spraying them only around $70 for primers, paint, clear and then $80 for sandblasting.
