Tire Pressure

Boys,

I just want to pass this on. It might seem like common sense but I had never really thought about it before.

So, I am pretty up on keeping my tread up to speed when it comes to tire pressure. I'll check my tires about once a month. My problem came when using my gauge. I use an electronic one rather than a mechanical one. I was, unfortunately, leaving my gauge in the car, thinking that I would have it ready for quick inspection of the tires. This is probably not the best plan of attack for a car that routinely sits in weather at 0 to -20 F. This was proved by that fact that my electronic tire gauge was misreading my tire pressure by 4lbs. So, rather than running at 33lbs, I was running at 37lbs. I was wondering why my winter shoes weren't getting much traction. Now I know why.

I now keep my tire pressure gauge in the house. Maybe something for those of you who live in northern climates to consider as well.

Until you get a bad sensor, then it's just for dummies.

electronic pressure monitors that is linked with the car's computer telling you if the air pressure is low or anything. is a good way to know if you need to refill the air. the TPMS is inside the rim. its not on the outside. but i think you will need to program it ..

I never have trusted digital gauges for anything..go with analog. electronic stuff like that always seems to make more trouble than its worth. that goes for tpms as well, I see cars that 'need' air in their tire or say they have a flat tire...because their car computer tells them so. why not just take the extra 3 min to get out of your car and check your tire?

TPMS works 2 ways

1: through the ABS. moniters teh revolutions of the wheel per mile and if one is out of range by a preset amount it throws the light on. flatter tires=more rotations per mile. over inflated=less rotations per mile

2: through sensors in the rim that transmit to the computer.

as in..not digital? the ones that have the stick come out of the bottom, or a gauge with a needle that reads the psi

Anyone know if they make a tire pressure sensor that would fit the 18" SE 04-07 Maxima wheel? I had a Maxima before I managed to total it but I did keep the wheels. I'm trying to use them on a '07 Altima that has a TPMS. I know the wheel will fit but Nissan is saying the sensors on my Altima will be to big for the hole on the Maxima wheel. Any suggestions? I'm trying to avoid having a warning light on all the time. Thanks in advance....
