neutral drop ?

So my 04 maxima's tranny, mfg in 6/03 decided today in traffic it would be fun to not engage from a stop light and sit there and just rev the engine. At first i thought maybe i knocked it out of gear and after the revs came down the first thing i did was yank back on the shifter to go into drive. IT WAS IN DRIVE !! what does this mean if from a stand still the car just revs the engine when i want to leave an intersection ? should the tranny computer get reset or should i bring it in for service ?

Someone let me know

If it's an SE I'm guessing it's a 5spd, I believe the SL were the ones they put 4spd into. I could be wrong though!!!

sounds like another tranny failure. Same thing happened to my dads 93 taurus a long time ago. u come to a stop light and when u try to go again it just sits there revving. I think the diagnosis was that one of the valve bodies was cracked and when heated up it expanded. Good luck.

I suggest you/everyone invest into a warranty from "winterfraust" ... There is a sticky on it... the best part they let yuo pay month to month on it... and its 0% interest and NO CREDIT CHECK...

Goto 6thgenmaxima.org and check it out under the sticky section... should be near the top... EVERYONE SHUOLD DO THIS... One engine problem and it will pay for itself !!! DO IT DO IT !

So my inservice date is 1/18/04 and its just not even ONE MONTH beyond the end of pwr train warranty. The car doesnt always do this, and is very sporadic in giving a hard shift from 2 to 3, but that was the first time ever it did the drop into neutral and didnt move. HELP ME !!! what should I do now ?

Where is the sticky located? I've been searching for it. Will definitely think of getting one if the price is right.

http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news0..._warranty.html here is a good write up. This article is based on consumer complaints sent in on their extended warranties. Good reading anyway.

They may work with you on this. My fuel pump died a week after the 5 years expired, but they still did it for free as a "courtesy repair." See what they say.
