Using the parking brake??

Just curious on who uses their parking brake every time they park and get out of their car? This question is more geared towards the automatic cvt rides. I have an 07 SE and I really only use it on steep grades. My question is who uses it every time and why? And/or does it really matter? Does it hurt the car to not put the parking brake on? Thanks

I use it every time, for two reasons. 1 - Use it or lose it...meaning if you rarely use your parking break, you could run the risk of it seizing up due to a build up over time of dirt/rust. 2 - If you could see what actually holds the car in place while the transmission is in park, you would see how flimsy the components are and realize that damage to them is quite possible if you use that mechanism to hold the weight of the car. Case in point, ever put a car in park, take your foot off the brake pedal, and the car subsequently rolls backward or forward about 4-6 inches? That is when someone has only used their park gear to sustain the weight of the car instead of using the parking break. That means that the teeth on the gear mechanism have been worn down. Not cool.

my '07 is my first car I have owned that is not a stick, so to much ridicule, I still always use my parking brake as a force of habit, even when parking on a perfectly level surface.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to train myself into the habit of using it.

I always use it no matter what. Sometimes my friends give me crap for it, but it's just instinct.

Use it. Saves wear on parking mechanism in the transmission, and also for safety.

i have the o4 with the 4 speed and i always use it even in a level parking lot. same idea as was already said...use it or lose it. the one time you do wanna use it and you haven't in a long time, is the time it wont release. whenever your doing brakes...take the rear rotors off and disassemble the parking brake and clean it up and lube it...maintenance is a headache saver.

I've always cringed at people who didn't use the parking brake when the car bounces against the gears/cvt when they get out, or something. Always use it, why risk it?

i use it because it relieves stress off of the parking pawl, which locks the transmission in the park position. its so easy to prevent a costly repair.

I use mine everytime I park, no matter where I sit the car. The reason is that I had another car a while back and didn't use it unless I was on an incline. The thing tore slam up and cost me a grip to get it fixed. Since then, I always use my parking brakes on all of my vehicles.

My wife uses it all the time and then forgets that it is still on and drives around for several minutes until she realizes that the parking brake is still on.
Which stretches that cable a bit. That brings me to a question. Doesn anyone know how to adjust a parking brake.

I use mine out of habit but i guess my brother-in-law doesn't. Borrowed Max, didn't release park brake until it began to smoke and i guess it took him awhile to determine what was going on. Warped rear rotors which had to be replced - at my cost. Relatives !!!!!!

shoot I have used mine everyday for allmost 6 years now and even tested it out a couple times to come to a sudden stop. works great for now, I am with the one who said use it or lose it. I have seen the cables go on these things and not work when needed.
