I really hope this isn't another tranny death
Let me start by saying, I know there is a lot of threads on this issue, but I am hoping that maybe, this isn't another dead one. I have an 04 with the 5AT. I was going up a steep hill earlier, so I gave it some more gas. I heard a noise, and now the car wont go past 20 mph. After 20, it just revs and revs, guessing that it isn't catching the next gear. After reving for a bit, it will jump, kind of like when a manual car isn't getting enough gas, when coming off the clutch. Any ideas/advice? Thanks in advance.
not really the responses I was hoping for, but it's what I expected.
I have 47,500 miles on my car, so should still be under warranty, but am I going to need to put all of the stock parts in before I call them?

Sorry to hear..Nissan screwed up bigtime with the 6th gen trans 5at IMO. I would NOT take it in modded at all..definitely worth the time & effort to put it back to stock. I have a CAI on my car and they didn't say anything..probably didn't notice. But I know they will try to blame it on your mods to get out of fixing the car.
What kind of mods are you talking about? They really can't refuse the warranty if it's a CAI, exhaust or even headers. None of those things directly adds any significant stress to a Transmission.

Ya, I just searched for it, they seemed to have better prices than the other three sites I saw..
I didn't realize the op had a warranty... just take it in dude.. they'll fix it.. dont worry about the mods.
Honestly, the dealerships don't work for Nissan.. and will scam Nissan for warranty jobs cuz they get paid.

I'd disagree that in these times, the dealership welcomes any money that will help pay for their mechanics.. who are getting paid whether there's work or not to be done
So after talking back and forth with different stealerships, and different people at each one, was finally able to find someone that isn't a complete tool and understood that aftermarket parts or not, this shouldn't have happened. I got the car towed in and a hour later, got the call saying that I didn't have a third gear, and that I was looking at $3,400. When asking about it being covered under warranty, since I had the extended warranty, that it would be covered. To the guy asking if the extended warranty is worth getting...I would have to say YES.
It is a 5AT. I got it back Monday and it is running great, but there was something different about it. After driving it the past 2 days, finally figured it out...the shimmy is gone! The tranny going turns out to be a blessing in disguise. This one shifts ALOT smoother also, cant even feel it between 1st and 2nd.
I am not usually that hard on it, but from time to time I do like to feel the power. For the most part during the week I am just driving to and from work, and not pushing it. And yes I am the original owner.
I'm from Delaware, and its extremely flat here. Where I live there are no mountains, or hills. I was wondering when your going up a mountain should you use manual mode (the +- part), and be in a lower gear going up a mountain just like going down a mountain? (I think it explains that in the manual.) I always leave it in (D) drive cause I know its not good for the transmission to use the manual part for regular driving, but I don't live in a state with mountains, so I would never need to use it. Maybe putting it in manual mode might have saved your transmission going up that steep mountain by putting less stress on it when you hit the gas when in a lower gear. Not sure anybody know?
