fixed my clutch pedal bracket

I finally got around to fixing this noisy thing..at first I thought it may just be a pushrod bushing or maybe the spring. I searched and didn't find anyone else with this problem, so I figured it would be minor. I put it off for a while until tonight I decided to tear into it and see what the problem was. Surprise surprise the dang bracket was snapped! The spot wield came apart, putting stress on the sides and eventually it snapped it. No worries though I managed to wield it with a bit more strength added to it, now my cruise control works and it shifts a whole lot better...obviously. Also I debadged my car a while back and never got to posting the pics.

Where it broke

Up close..

Fixed!

looking for something to cover/fill those divots (other than the nissan emblem) I saw a max with a sort of wing design before..but now I can't find it. Anyone know what im talking about and where to get one?

I probably should have asked this question a while ago..but have any other 6 speed owners encountered this issue? Or is this a user error thing? I know theres only a few out there..just a heads up for you guys.

That's a great fix!

On a side note, you're probably in a small minority of 6th Gen owners who actually have the skill & resources to repair that issue.

Yep. thats how I would describe the noise before the fix..the whole bracket was misaligned causing the spring to rub up against the sides. It was a pretty easy fix compared to other stuff ive done, just 3 bolts that hold it on + the sensors and pushrod pin to remove, them bam its out. It took me under an hour R&R. Now that its fixed there is no noise whatsoever, and all the 'mushiness' is gone. although my pushrod bushing is cracked..ordering it from the dealership tomorrow. If you're looking dead on at the bracket, the top left corner was where mine broke. Maybe that spotwield is weak in design?

Hey guys,

Not sure if this is proper to do, but I had this exact same issue too on my 06 clutch pedal. I've no idea how long it's been broken (bought it used), but I'm sure it's been since I bought it.

Anyway, had a buddy weld it up for me, and it's running much better now. I wonder how common this issue is though. Pictures below..

These are usually available on eBay. Search for Nissan Wing...

I think this may be the problem with mine. When I press it, it is a bit stiff and makes a groaning sound like a spring being stretched out. Sometimes the noise goes away for a short time, but it always comes back.

OK, so I crawled under the dash and felt around the bracket for a crack, and sure enough I feel a crack on the upper left corner. So I called Nissan and they say that a new one is only $49. So I will probably just replace it. Thanks for the thread as I was getting ready to replace the entire clutch.

That is exactly the same sound mine was making, I'd feel around the bracket for a crack, I found mine at the upper left corner when looking at the pedal. You can't see it, only feel, unless the pedel is removed. I am having mine replaced next Friday. Will post results & if it fixes the problem.

I suspect that I'm having the same problem. All those descriptions sound eerily familiar.

Clutch Bracket Snapped

OK, Sorry it took so long to reply here, the dealer had to order an EGR Valve and that delayed the repairs. As a side note, shouldn't a dealer have EGR valves in stock? They seem like a common thing to replace.

Anyway, the clutch bracket was broke on the corner, just like the other listed on this thread. The replacement has silenced the squeak. The new one only cost about $48. I'll get the old one welded up so I have a replacement in case it happens again.

In the picture you are looking at the back of the unit and the bolt holes that go into the firewall mounting for the bracket.

I was quoted at $287 parts and labor for this at a stealership. Guess I'm gonna figure it out and tackle it myself...

I don't really think it is that hard, you just have to be able to contort a little in order to reach the bolts.

I copied this from a previous poster who did it himself, "just 3 bolts that hold it on + the sensors and pushrod pin to remove, them bam its out"....I think there are 2 bolts into the firewall & 1 at the top of the clutch unit.

In the picture from my post on 12/03 you are looking at the back of the unit and those 2 bolt holes goto the firewall, the hole on top would be under the dash somewhere. You'll be on your back with a flashlight finding these things. Good luck & it is no bother to answer you.

I have the same sound on my 6 speed max. But my bracket was just cracked, not broken through yet. Still have to get it welded.
On a separate note, I had deleted the clutch damper earlier this year and never had any squishiness after that. Definitely recommend doing this.

I got mine welded back in July, but the squeaky sound came back about last month. I took the bracket out, but the welding is still fine. So I bought a new one from Courtesy Nissan (part information below), and installed it in less than 30 minutes. Always the hardest part is to get that cotter pin in...everything else is much easier. Total was less than $55 incl shipping. Spring is strong, and no more noise.

I'd recommend just getting a new one if the noise is happening to you. I don't know why/how the noise came back on my bracket even after the welding was done.

Bracket came in today and I just finished swapping it. Well worth the time. This is how I though the clutch should feel....it has been rough even since we purchased the car. Now it is smooth a silk, quiet and the tranny shift much better.

I will say this is not an easy job for a 6'3" 260lb guy....

Thanks to the original poster for bringing this to our attention!

I've had this issue on my '06 Altima 6mt for about 70k miles now...can anyone give any insight as to whether Altimas would have this same issue and if it's the same part # as the Max. Thanks

I had that problem in Feb 2012 and changed a new bracket. Guess what!! in September 2012, the new one broke. Nissan would not warranty it. WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING about this! I know few people with 2006 Max facing the same issue. SO i welded the part and its working fine now. The piece is too weak for such a hard spring. The clutch is just too hard. Within few months it snaps and sinks in. So all of you who bought a new one, its just a matter of 6 months or so IT WILL SNAP again.

Thanks for the idea of welding, i had bought the brackets and the clutch twice and it always snaps. Hopefully the welding will last....but the damn spring is still hard.

Just fixed mine over the weekend. I couldn't take the noise anymore. Mine broke exactly as the one pictured and that 1 spot weld was loose as well. Took it out, welded it back together, put it back in the car and WOW. It's never been this smooth in the 30k miles I've owned the car. Best mod yet.

The part number*46503-A34002 is for the clutch assembly which includes the bracket and clutch pedal.

In this thread it was mentioned they found just the bracket. Could someone list the part number for just the bracket? Thanks in advance.

Does any of you guys have a picture where the clutch pedal bolts to the upper area of the firewall? I did an auto to manual swap in my Max and didn't come with any place to bolt the clutch pedal in the upper section, just the 2 bolts that are in the master cylinder.

I have fabricated an small bracket but I think it sits a little low and the feel of the clutch is not the best.
