transmission dip stick
Since we are on the subject, why did Nissan come up with the child proof locking mechanism for the dipstick. When I first purchased my Max and went to check the transmission fluid i was like WTF, how do you remove the dipstick.I guess they wanted to deter the everyday theft of dipsticks!
They wanted to stress the fact that it wasn't an ordinary dip stick and so that more people would pay attention to the label, just below the retaining clip that calls for MATIC K trans fluid only.
A good thing, in my opinion, since normal tranny fluid would more or less fry the transmission.
Just, wish they would have given more thought in building a more efficeint and durable transmission.

Well it works....cuz I don't know how to take this thing off. I played with it a little but I usually break things so I left it alone. My most recent break was the part that holds the auto shift **** on. So how do you take it off? (tranny dip stick, not the shift ****)
Just below the silver label that says "Matic K trans fluid only', there is a square opening that has a plastic retaining clip. This clip has to be pushed IN, in order for you to take the dip stick out.
Use a small flat head screw driver, don't worry if the clip breaks off.
It will just make checking your tranny fluid, a whole lot easier in the future ....
