Dark Shadow Grey

Dark Shadow Grey
Clear coat goes on Monday. I'm feeling like I waisted money on Powder Coat. I got a better color with Dupli "Dark Shadow Grey". I tested the grille which was powder coated and I was able to paint over it. Does it look tacky?

Me too. Thats only the first wheel and it took me all weekend and Monday the clear coat should dry in 30minutes. At this rate I won't be done until next week. I just waisted $400 bucks on powder coat for the stock wheels. I didn't use any primer, just paint prep sanding wipe and spray......

I love it. Would love to see them on the car too. Also curious why it took you the whole weekend to do one? Did that include the wasting time on the powder coating?
I want to do this to my wheels I like the color or a gun metal gray of sorts because I have a smoke maxima. I just want to know if it's do-able in a weekend. I would have to find a friend that has a lift im sure so I could get all the wheels off. I don't believe I would take the tires off (even though it would be cleaner) And just get one of those template things I saw another guy on the forum's here use.

Its about one can per wheel and clear coat. You have to wash the wheel first, then prep the surface. If there are any deep scratches try to sand it smooth as much as you can. Wash wheel again, use alchol to wipe down and let dry or you'll get water spots. Tape off the wheel well and if tires are still on use index cards around the edges/lip. Lay wheel flat. Pick your color, shake can and spray lightly across 2-3" away. Don't spray to much in one spot or to close. You will get paint runs. I had to wait over night becaue there was still light spots after 3 coats in one or two spots. When it dried completely the next day I was able to spray more coats and cover all light spots without any paint runs. If you keep trying to spray paint thats not dry completely the paint will run and bunch up in spots. So, if it don't look right the first few coats. Just let dry overnight and apply more coats.
The G35 rim is curved so much, it made it difficult to spray evenly. A stock wheel with straight spokes should be easy.

Put on the clear coat and Its to glossy for me. I really like the flat look but here it is with clear coat..... Top and bottom grilles are painted same color but without the clear coat and thats how I want the wheels to look. Left the emblem off the grille because it looks good without it.

Those are red led tails but I agree they should be darker like the black ones. I could just tint them to. The side markers and corner lights are tinted from blubat. I want some Halo rings in the headlights

Looks sweet bro! I thought the way you had it initially looked great. I love this mod, just haven't had the stones to do it until I get another set of wheels for summer. By the way, how is it that they don't scratch the clearcoat or powder coat when putting the tires back on?... Painting/powdercoating wheels looks great, but I would be paranoid about the durability of the wheel's surface! When you clear or powder coat the factory rims, will the salt eat them alive in winter?

Looks good bro, very neat! The wheels look great and simple. I didn't like my rims at first, but it all takes some time to sink in.
I wouldn't necessarily buy new LED taillights, in your case, I would just tint those taillights ($45), and paint the headlights the color of the wheel or the car....? I'm not sure black would look good with your theme... Good job!
