Painting engine cover-2 Questions

Im painting my engine cover. Im doing all the prep work tonight and im painting tomorrow. When taking off the smaller of the three plastic pieces (the drivers side plastic piece by intake) I broke two of those clips. Are those cheap? and Where can i get them? Only the stealership?
Any way thats not a big deal, My stupid noob question is...
Is it OK to drive my car without those piesces on there? Im sure its fine but i noticed the main engine cover bolts right into the engine. I also wanted to make sure that they are only cosmetic and are not necessary to prevent any kind of damage (water etc.)
I have been taking pictures along the way so i plan to do some kind of how to to help out other org members with this mod.
Any info would be great.
Thank you in advance...

Prep Work???? oookay....

I used special orange hand soap to wash all the parts with dried with a towl. Then painted... lol

You will be fine to drive without the covers. The 2 sides are for look but the main engine cover protects from dirt and dust.

The clips can be bought at the dealership but some the guys say you can get them at pepboys or autozone.

Good luck and post some pics when your done...

By prep work i ment take all the pieces off and get them cleaned up real good.
The funny thing is " i just got out of the bathtub with my engine bay pieces" LOL you dont get to say that very often in your life.
I hope autozone has them that would be great.
I have been taking pics but there from the i phone so bear with me.
