Knocking/ Pinging noise
Knocking/ Pinging noise
Well since I bought the car I always hear the engine knocking/pinging when I turn off my car. Also notice it did it when the car was running. Some ppl told me its because the car is new and the metal is just expanding from the heat. I took it to dealer and they say every thing was ok. After I installed my CAI then I switch to only prem gas. But now that I did *2 advance timing i'm a little bit concern more about the knocking/pinging soud. Last night I did some research on web and found alot of treads about what could be causing this. Anything from radiator cap, oil change and filter, knock sensors. About two weeks a go when I did my timing advance I got my oil change and clean my air filter.
The place I took it are bunch of idiots and had a big problem with them not putting my oil & filter I provided. Then had them put my oil and filter. Amsoil 100% 5w-30 and Ea filter. I ask them for my 1/2 quart back & they sayed "Oh that car takes 5qt" but it should only take 4.5qt. I was thinking of cleaning my throttle body spacer and maf, also I notice when I installed NWP VIAS block plate there was some brown residue on the side of intake manifold(2 days ago). So maybe just change the pcv valve also.
I was thinking of buying a nismo high pressure radiator cap just for an accesorie. Would that overpressurize the cooling system? Mods are Fujita CAI, *2 Advance Timing, nwp VIAS block off plate. Possibly any of this would help knocking/pinging by any chance? Or just go back to the dealer and ask them to run some diagnostics to see if the car is running fine. To me the car runs fine only the knocking noise. Oh yea a little annoying noise maybe belts have to be replaced. I'll might do that when I add a UDP. MPG was 27 after oil change then went down to 25 after my driving habits. Had car since june 2006 and has 29k on it.Guys I know that's a lot of reading..

Interesting, it's really hard to diagnosis a car from someone trying to explain how it sounds
if you can get a sound clip, several other members have asked if there car sounded weird, and if something was wrong and after they put a sound or video clip up they then realized it was normal.
What did you drive before the Maxima, I've found that most people think all cars should sound the same regardless of engine size

I didn't drive before. This is my first car I had. Same day I passed the DMV test I got the car. So I don't have others to compare. Today I walking by my dryer machine and it sounded like it. Dryer is a newer model and doesn't really make that much noise. I heard that same noise from other cars that are not maximas. I'll try to get a sound clip.
Is the vibramount to your Fujita broken because mine broke a couple times and it began to rub against the frame. I would always hear something knocking or rattling so i checked under the hood and saw the broken vibramount
I was trying to record it with my phone but the noise was not that loud for the phone to pick up. I search for some vids online to see how knocking sounds like and it's not that. It's not coming from the engine at all. It's coming from the pipes at the bottom of the car. Which makes it seems that it's all over the car. Sounds like little taps on the metal.
Found this online so hopefully it's that...Any one know about the radiator cap question.
"It's entirely possible that the most common ticking noise is the sound you get from a slowly cooling exhaust system when the car is hot during the summer and you turn it off. If the car is making metallic ticking sounds for a couple minutes after you shut it off, it's just the exhaust system contracting as it cools down. It's much more common on opposing head or "V" engines, where the pipes are joined together in a welded "Y" before going into the catalytic converter.A dual exhaust system with independent converters, mufflers and tailpipes may still have a crossover pipe of some sort for equalizing pressure, which can also lead to clicking noises when pipes cool at different rates."

It's not the engine knocking or pinging (it's off) it's metal expanding/contracting. Perfectly normal, all vehicles do it, especially when they are newer.
