6th Generation Headlights get stolen???
6th Generation Headlights get stolen???
Hello, I used to be a Maxima owner and i really want to come back BAD!! The only reason why i stopped buying maxima for a while was because. I had a 5th Generation maxima 2002 and some thieves kept stealing the headlights out of my car.. I want to know if this is an issue with the 6th generation maximas?? can anyone share some stories. I think the major problem with the stolen headlights was that the mounted the electronic piece that makes the headlights look cool right on the casing of the headlamp. Does anyone know if this is the same setup on the 6th generation. I am from Miami so i have to be extra careful
Thanks for all of your help!

First off, it's not the car, it's the neighborhood. Get yourself a place with a garage, and keep it inside if you must stay in the area. Add to that, you may have been hit by the same bunch of guys each time. This probably wasn't organized crime, it was just some punks wanting to upgrade a friends ride for a few bucks. If they were organized, i'd assume they'd have boosted the whole ride and stripped what they needed in a shop.
That said, I don't know of too many reports of that kind of problem, but this ain't Miami. It would take a little effort for someone to get these off the car. Two guys with the skills and the ballz about 30 minutes, without the key, but it would look suspisious. Look how easilly someone can ripp off rimms and wheels even with a lock on one stud.
I had an 84 olds cutlass back in the day when those were the #1 stolen car in america. I also lived on a Marine base near Santa Anna CA, I hated going inside a store for more then a few minutes on that side of town. I normally went out of my way, like Newport or Irvine to get stuff. Thankfully at night I was on base, so no issues.

I have not heard of anything like that happening to the 6th gens man....
I agree with MadMax on this one -> it could just be little punks that are messing around man... (a few years ago we had an issue in the southern area of Toronto where people kept coming out from their houses and they would find their cars missing wheels and other sht) - within 5 months, the local police found out it was a group of 17 year olds that were messing around and selling sht on ebay....

Well since the 5thgen had this as an option, Hids have become available on more cars now. 5thgen lights don't require the bumper to be removed. On the 6thgen the bumper has to drop. You won't be able to remove the entire assembly without popping the hood and removing the grill and searching for screws. A thief wouldn't have time to do this.

Don't allow some idiot thieves to determine what car you buy. Get the max if you really want it.
yeah, I agree I believe i was followed out of a parking garage or someone at my apartment complex spotted the car and decided it was an easy hit.. Although this does seem to be a bigger problem than just high crime cities. Nissan even settled on a few cases and ate the repair costs. I am not seeing anything on the 6th generation maxima.. Is that all they would need to take off is just the grill? Where exactly is that electronic piece located??

hahahaha Never thought about it that way.. Only reason i ask is because i spent 1,500 dollars out of my pocket dealing with claims every time they stole my damm headlights. I bought a clifford alarm for 500 and they came back stole my headlights and stole the alarm too
damn bro...that sucks big time-> where are you from dude ?
wwwwooowww lol.. those dudes are crafty.. sorry to hear about that..
but i have heard about 6thgen lights getting stolen... im happy it hasnt happend to me yet..
I can't imagine it would be very easy to steal them. You'd need at least 30 mins in my eyes. You have to take out the grille, drop the bumper, then theres like 6 bolts holding each headlight in place.. naw I don't think they could do it unless you gave them time.
Get a good alarm, get it installed RIGHT, and get extra sensors that go off easily (when the car is touched, bumped, etc.)

The 5th gens were famous for having they're headlights stolen that is the one reason we all figured (early in the 6th gen life cycle) that they designed the 6th gen lights so hard to get to. I can't be quoted but I do remember the 5th gen Maxima being the number one car that the lights were stolen from a few years back.
So to answer your question, no the 6th gens don't have a problem.

Along with the 5th gens I remember 2nd Gen TL having the xenon's stolen.
I've read about Lexus RX350 with the tilt and auto adjusting Xenon's being stolen, but those headlights are hugh and it's probably more of an isolated thing just popping up online
The answer is no. 6th gen headlights do not get stolen like the 5.5 gens. It's all about demand and supply.
2000-2001 Maximas didn't come with HID headlights. Then in 2002-2003, Nissan decides to make the exact same headlight but with HID lighting. Now all the people who have 2000-2001 models want HID's. The cheapest and easiest way to do it is to either steal the ones off of 2002-2003 or buy stolen ones.
6th gen Maxima's all came standard with HID's from the beginning. The only way NOT to get HID's was to get the "delete HID" option which was probably less than 5% of Maxima's sold.
